RopeDope Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 I'm about to leave for my first trip to Smith in the morning (7/30). I noticed some reports of smoke settling into the area. I would hate to abandon my first trip to Smith Can someone confirm how bad the smoke is? I think the smoke is coming from fires that are 21 mi north of Warm Springs. Smoke Advisory: http://www.katu.com/health/story.asp?ID=69575 Fire Report: http://www.or.blm.gov/nwcc/nwcc-reports/FireInfoSummary/fireinfosummary.htm Weather Report (current conditions listed as "Smokey"): http://www.weather.com/weather/local/97760 Thanks!! gapertimmy Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 the fire is north of warm springs towards shaniko. the smoke has been fairly heavy drifting south into bend. i would imagine there is some smoke drifting then into the crooked river gorge area, but it shouldn't stop you from climbing. the heat on the other hand might. never believe weather.com, thats an east coast website. there is smoke on hwy 26 and odot has reduced the speed limit to 45mph. RopeDope Posted July 30, 2004 Author Posted July 30, 2004 Thanks Timmy. I think we're going to chance it, drive down (6 hrs), and check out the conditions for ourselves. Cheers! Quote
