caude Posted July 9, 2004 Posted July 9, 2004 Has anyone recently climbed the Mazama Glacier route on Adams? I'm headed there this weekend for a one-day ascent starting from the Cold Springs campground. Any recent beta would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Chuck Quote
scot'teryx Posted July 9, 2004 Posted July 9, 2004 I would like to know what conditions were like, so please post on your return Quote
mattyg Posted July 13, 2004 Posted July 13, 2004 How'd it go? I'll probably be heading there this weekend. Quote
caude Posted July 15, 2004 Author Posted July 15, 2004 We made it slightly higher than Sunrise Camp before turning around due to whiteout conditions. We started from Cold Springs Campground and took the Round the Mountain trail to Bird Creek Meadows. The RtM trail was pretty much snow free. The trail from Bird Creek to Sunrise Camp was snow free for the first half and increasingly snow covered the higher we went. There are some pretty obvious cairns and blazes to look for when the trail disappears. We went up the glacier above Sunrise Camp before turning around. The snow was beginning to soften a little and we only got a few glimpses of the route above us. There seem to be a lot of rock fall on the glacier near the ridge which separates the Mazama and Klickitat glaciers. The campsites at Sunrise Camp are snow free as is the one campsite near the lake at the base of the Mazama glacier. I hope you have a safe and fun weekend! Quote
mattyg Posted July 15, 2004 Posted July 15, 2004 Are there any water sources (other than snow) at or near Sunrise Camp? Quote
spacely Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 I was there a few years ago in August and there was running water right near camp Quote
