smeek12 Posted April 7, 2004 Posted April 7, 2004 I will be in Portland late April and wish to climb the South side of Mt. Hood around the 26th to 28th. I plan on camping above the Palmer lift the first night and completing the climb the following day. I have moderate experience, have taken a 4-day mountaineering class from ASI, and climbed Casaval Ridge on Mt. Shasta last January. If anyone is interested, leave a message or email me at smeek24@yahoo.com. Quote
Chad_A Posted April 7, 2004 Posted April 7, 2004 (edited) May I suggest that you just do it as a day climb? A person, taking their time, can complete the climb in 5.5 hours, and much less if one doesn't take that many breaks. Just a thought. Edit: That's 5.5 hours to the summit, by the way. Most people do it in less than that If you traverse to the Illumination Saddle, there's a nice spot to camp there, FYI, if you're really into the thought of camping up there. Doubt tht you'll have a hard time finding a partner. Have fun! Edited April 7, 2004 by vw4ever Quote
smeek12 Posted April 8, 2004 Author Posted April 8, 2004 I definately have nothing against doing it in a day, just thought I'd take my time since it would be my first trip to Oregon and I have to come home when the climb is over. Plus, I do enjoy snow camping with a view! Quote
