someone probably had a discussion on this website about different sheath construction already...but I couldn't find anything similiar. Does anyone know the different types of sheath construction? what are the advantages and disadvantages?

Single pic vs double pic. Single pic means one bundle of nylon over one bundle, double pic means two bundles over two bundles.

 

You tend to see single pic sheaths only on skinny ropes. Supposedly a double pic is more durable since there is more nylon there, while a single pic is more water resistant due to the tighter weave.

 

But that's all theoretical. YMMV.
