bbm Posted April 6, 2004 Posted April 6, 2004 What is my best bet for finding some good steep chutes/couloirs that are pretty accessible. I've explored around Pilchuck and found some decent stuff and thought about heading up to WA Pass. I've seen great stuff down around Crystal and Paradise, but not sure how accessible it all is. Would love some suggestions as I'm new to the area. Cheers - Brad Quote
teledave Posted April 7, 2004 Posted April 7, 2004 Welcome to Seattle. I am new here myself, moved in September. I don't know how steep is steep for you, but two couloirs come to mind: the Crooked and the Slot. Both are on the backside of Snoqualmie Mountain and are easily accessed from the Alpental parking lot. The Slot is about 1200 vf and 35 - 40+ degrees, and is one of the most picturesque ski runs I can imagine. The Crooked is somewhat shorter but actually steeper in it's crux. Also, watch out for the bergshrund. Both are well described in Martin Volken's guide to touring in Snoqualmie Pass. I would also recommend checking out www.turnsallyear.com if you haven't already.
