bbm Posted March 9, 2004 Posted March 9, 2004 any idea where i can get some info on best routes for an early may descent on rainier? climbed emmons last summer and it appeared pretty doable with good weather/routefinding...not sure it is the best though... Quote
Dulton Posted March 9, 2004 Posted March 9, 2004 Emmons is ok, lots of crevasses except in the corridor Furher Finger is skiable, I think someone posted a TR earlier this year. Gib Chute is also skiable.. any others?? Quote
cracked Posted March 9, 2004 Posted March 9, 2004 Lib ridge. Central Mowich. Edmunds Headwall. Emmons. DC. Fuhrer Finger. Kautz Headwall. Thermogenesis. Anything else? www.skimountaineer.com has some info. Quote
Tod Posted March 9, 2004 Posted March 9, 2004 Kautz and Fuhrer Finger are probably the two best ones that come to mind. These don't involve as much crevasse danger as descents such as Emmons do. On a descent down the Kautz we were about 1/3 of the way down the ice chute/tounge and were able to find a ski route through the icefall that dropped us down on Camp Hazard. Pretty cool skiing a icy cravassed ramp with seracs towering over you and then suddenly end up skiing into Camp Hazard. No climbing back up from the base of the ice chute/tounge! Quote
