  1. I have a Kong Bomaiti Crampons for sale for $50.00. Used it once on Rainier. Need to sell because it only can be used for plastic boots and step in leather boots and I already have crampons. Includes crampon case as well.

Please email me at JERSAN@SAFECO.COM if you are interested and I also have pictures I can email.

    thanks

  2. I heard this is a great way to meet people. What do you think?

Businesses team up to offer adventures in dating

Think of it as "Survivor" meets "Blind Date" — without the cameras.

Singles looking for love and adventure can get a two-for-one shot with outdoor trips organized by Seattle-based REI and online dating service Match.com.

The two companies recently teamed up to offer activity-based adventure trips — hiking, climbing, kayaking and cycling — to Match.com members.

"Interactive activities are a great, low-pressure way to meet other people," said Kathleen Roldan, director of dating for the Dallas-based matchmaking company. "We're offering a large pool of eligible singles an opportunity to interact with each other without the pressure of a first-date situation."

Mark Klee, a 38-year-old pharmacist tired of the Boston bar scene, returned last week from a nine-day cycling trip to Ireland. "The trip was awesome," he said. "It was a really good group of folks. There were some very attractive women."

In fact, Klee plans to meet a couple of his new female friends for dinner in San Diego this weekend when he's in the area for a friend's wedding.

"I don't know if my primary focus in going over there was to hook up," he said. "The fact that everybody was single was just sort of an added bonus."

Even if people don't make a love connection, they usually enjoy traveling with a group of like-minded singles, sponsors of the trips say.

"If people are married, they don't want to go on a trip with singles. If they're single, they don't want married couples," said Cynthia Dunbar, manager of REI Adventures. "Those are the things that are always on people's minds."

The monthly trips accommodate 16 — eight men and eight women. A hiking trip to Utah in October is already sold out, and trips to Baja and Hawaii are planned for November and December.

Diane Murray, an active 50-year-old from Portland, said she often has trouble meeting men her age who can keep up with her. Though she didn't meet her match on her trip to Ireland in August, she says she would do it again "in a heartbeat."

"I thought, 'Gosh, what a great opportunity to meet other single people that share the same interests,' " she said. "It was a lot of fun."

  3. check out the report below.... Now the bear will likely be destroyed so don't feed the animals. They belong in the wild. What do you think?

Jul 22, 2002 by Ken and Jeff are afraid of bears

Mount Pilchuck #700 - The Glacier Peak Area

Mount Pilchuck could have been great hike except for the bear **Yes BEAR.. We figured to get up there and back sown before it got unbearably hot. We arrived at the trailhead and signed in by about 7:45.Am. After about a mile we came across a bear (I would guess about 250 lbs or more.) We first saw it from about 25 feet away or so lying across the trail. We attempted to pass by waiting for it to run off, but it was clear it wouldn't. We backed down the hill with the bear following for about a half mile (talk about slow going) until it was gone, then continued toward the car at a good clip. Just when we were pretty confident it was gone, it came down from an above switchback to the trail a few feet behind us. It seemed to discontinue it's pursuit when we came to several other groups of hikers. We went to the Ranger station at Verlot where they assured us the animal would be dealt with (removed or destroyed) They indicated it had been around for about a month. It's just getting too aggressive now.

Clearly someone has fed it because it has no fear of humans. I doubt the people feeding it realize they may have caused its demise.

    Best of luck

  4. Hello everyone,

I found a knife with bloodstain while hiking up to Easy Pass in the North Cascade this past weekend. It’s a good quality knife so I'm sure the owner didn't leave it intentionally. If you can describe it its yours.

  5. Hey geordie,

what about the Sibling creek road to Hidden Lake Peak? The know at least half of the road is still cover with snow but the last I heard there were tons of down trees on the road. I was hoping to go up there and do some skiing.

    Thanks for the info

  6. Hey DBB

I went with TTT to Coleman glacier this past weekend and to let you know that the glacier is pretty much still cover up with snow. didn't see much of crevasse problems or the bergshrud problem. The skiing was great with powder snow above 7000 feet and corn below that. I made it to the top but it was very windy and cold. It still looks like winter condtions up there.

  7. yes it was weird on Mt. Baker, the wind died down in matter of minutes and it turn from complete windy and whiteout Mckinley-like condtions to clear skies and calming winds. It seems a bad weather system quickly moved out of the area around 10:00am on Sunday and we hit the summit around 11:30am. The wind at the very top was still windy but not too bad (around 40 miles per hour). Below that at the Roman Wall it was maybe 15-20 miles per hour and below the col it was calm. I didn't see any avalanche or rock fall danger.

  8. hey just wondering how the road to Sibling Creek to Hidden Lakes? It is the steep 4 miles logging road that is 9 miles in from Cascade River Road. The Last I heard it had tons of down trees as well and is impassable both car and bikes.

    Thanks for the info...

  9. Hey just heard there were 2 climbers on Mt. Baker this weekend that was stuck up there. Anyone know anything about this? There was a terrible front that moved in yesterday afternoon. I hope they make it down ok...

Search to resume for two climbers

    05/28/2002

    NWCN.com

Search and rescue crews will resume efforts Monday to locate two climbers stranded overnight in white out conditions on Mount Baker. The Whatcom County Sheriff's Office says the search will begin again at first light.

    USGS

    Mount Baker in Washington state.

Rescue workers attempted to reach the two men Sunday evening, but weather conditions held them back. Crews spent the night camping on the mountain.

The climbers are said to be wet and cold but uninjured. They dug a snow cave in order to stay warm, according to the sheriff's department.

We'll have more details when they're available.

  10. I drove through there in the morning around 9:30 on Monday and it was still open. I saw a slide right underneath Libertry Bell and it almost took down a car. I'm sure they closed it right after that. The weather there was nice and warm with broken clouds and no rain. We parked at the overcrowded Blue Lake Trailhead but there was still room for vehicles. Went skiing and the snow was pretty nice spring corn. Saw some parties up the Becky's route and everything looks to be in. Nice day to be up there....

  11. I just notice that the 2001 model of the Sierra Designs clip Flashlight tent (3 lbs) is on sale at REI. I'm thinking of replacing my heavy and bulky 4 season tent with this tent. I know this tent will not hold up in stormy conditions but I'm sick of tired of carrying my big 4 season tent everywhere when I never really encounter such storms. I mean you can't really predict what the weather will be like but for all the years I've been going overnight, the weather has not been a factor. I guess it is more base on looking at the forecast ahead of time, and going up when knowing the weather will be good. In any case what is your rating for this tent? I know a bivi would be another option but I plan on using this for two people. (my spouse)
