  1. Applications are now available for the BOEALPS Intermediate Climbing Class. This is a small class with a great instructor to student ratio. Up to 1/3 of class spots are available to non club members. The Boeing Employee’s Alpine Society Intermediate Climbing Class expands the physical, mental and technical limits of those who wish to challenge themselves in the alpine environment. In an intensive, hands-on environment, you will learn the skills and gain the experience necessary for you to be self-sufficient on intermediate-level alpine climbs. Skills you will learn include: Leading traditional, multi-pitch rock climbing Steep Snow and Ice Climbing Self-rescue techniques Weekend alpine and expedition climb planning Class outings are approximately every other weekend from middle of March to the end of August, plus classroom sessions every other Monday evening. Students are expected to be in excellent physical condition and have some technical climbing experience beyond that gained in the basic climbing class.   2. Signups for the Basic Climbing Class are tomorrow morning at 5 am. If you are not a club member and are interested in the class, sign up early as the available spots fill quickly.

  5. April 20-21st the Basic and Intermediate Climbing Class will be rock climbing at various crags in Icicle Creek area of Leavenworth. The crags are listed below. There will be groups of 10-15 people at each of these locations on the days listed. The BOEALPS Basic Climbing Class will be climbing the following mountains in the Snoqualmie Pass area this Saturday and Sunday Guye Peak Kendall Snoqualmie Mountain Red Mountain The BOEALPS Intermediate Climbing Class will be at Horsethief Butte State Park on the Columbia River practicing rope and climbing skills on Saturday and Sunday.

The BOEALPS Intermediate Climbing Class (ICC) is an exceptional opportunity for those who want to advance their basic climbing abilities and who have a desire to gain the skill and experience necessary to climb some of the more technical and remote climbs in the Cascades and the Olympics. The Intermediate Course builds on the fundamentals learned in the BOEALPS Basic Climbing Class (BCC) and helps students take their climbing to the next level–focusing on more advanced rock climbing and mountain safety skills. Throughout the course, students are encouraged to practice decision-making and to develop leadership skills in the alpine environment. Class runs from mid-March to the end of August with a Monday night classroom session and a weekend outing about every two weeks. Please view the ICC Calendar for the schedule. -BOEALPS OUTREACH-
  11. The BOEALPS Basic Climbing Class Signup is coming up soon. The signup is online this year, and non-Boeing spots fill up fast. Signup will open on January 9th at 5 am. For more information or to sign up see BOEALPS BCC The BOEALPS Basic Climbing Class (BCC) is a great opportunity to learn the skills that are necessary for basic competence in alpine travel. This course covers at an introductory level everything from proper clothing and route finding to crevasse rescue and glacier travel. If you are new to the outdoors or have outdoor experience but lack the training to go with it, then this course is a must for you! Class sessions are held on Wednesday evenings, with one-day weekend outings (either Saturday or Sunday) from March through June. Note that two full weekend outings are also scheduled during the class (snow camping, and graduation climb). -BOEALPS OUTREACH-
  12. BOEALPS Basic Climbing Class is over for the year. Thanks for your patience if you ran into them anywhere.   13. Second round of grad climbs for the BOEALPS Basic Climbing Class this weekend. Once again, all climbs are two days on Saturday and Sunday. There will be teams on the following mountains/routes: Little Tahoma - Climbing from Paradise Mt Baker - Squak Glacier Mt Shuksan - Sulphide Glacier Eldorado - East Ridge The BOEALPS Intermediate Climbing Class will be up in Squamish doing some rock climbing this weekend.   14. The BOEALPS Basic Climbing Class is starting to wrap up with grad climb the next two weekends. All climbs are two days on Saturday and Sunday. If anyone wants conditions reports post a reply and I can try get them from the teams.   15. This weekend the BOEALPS Basic Climbing Class will be doing crevasse rescue training up on the Nisqually Glacier on Mount Rainier. The BOEALPS Intermediate Climbing Class will be down at Smith Rock doing some rock climbing and easier trad leads. BOEALPS Outreach
  16. The BOEALPS Basic Climbing Class will be in the Tatoosh Range this weekend. Typical peaks climbed are Castle, Pinnacle, Eagle, Chutla, Lane, Plummer, and Denman during different times of the day. There will be teams out Saturday and Sunday. BOEALPS Outreach
  17. The Basic and Intermediate Climbing Classes will both be in Leavenworth this weekend. The Basic Climbing Class will be doing rock skills in the following areas, probably both Saturday and Sunday: Madsen's Buttress Clamshell Cave Playground Point Mountaineers Dome They tend to stay off most of the actual popular climbs in the areas, but if you want to get on something they already are, just ask and I'm sure you'll be able to work something out. The Intermediate Climbing Class will be doing rescue training on some rarely climbed rock a ways up hill from the turnoff to Bridge Creek. Sunday will be leading skills, but not sure where yet. As with the basic class, if you run into the intermediate class and want to get on a climb, just ask. BOEALPS Outreach
  18. There was a BOEALPS team out that way last weekend and they said they startd about a half hour below where NF-2419 and NF-2464 merge on Google maps, about 2000 ft. They didn't have flotation and it was pretty slow going up the road. They were able to call the ranger station and get a road conditions update before they went. Just a heads up, there will be another team up there doing snow camping for the Basic Climbing Class. BOEALPS Outreach

The Basic Climbing Class will be doing overnight trips to the following peaks this weekend to learn about snow camping: Jim Hill Mountain/Pt 6131 Devils Peak/Thumb Mt Elinor/Mt Washington There will also be Basic Climbing Class teams on one day trips at the following peaks: Saturday: Baring and Duke of Kent Sunday: Duke of Kent and Silver Mountain The Intermediate Climbing Class will be doing snow skills review this weekend as well.   23. The BOEALPS Basic Climbing Class is getting started for the year and will be at Mt Erie on this Saturday and Sunday (3/10-3/11) doing basic belay, rappel, and climbing instruction. I'll try to post information on where groups will be in the appropriate forums as the class progresses.   24. 2012 ICC Student applications are now available online! Check out the BOEALPS ICC web page for full details! Prospective students should apply today as space is limited! Applications are due by February 26th, 2012 Up to 1/3 of the class capacity can be non-Boeing employees. Applicants should have completed the BOEALPS Basic Climbing Class, or equivalent, or have a skill set meeting the graduation requirements of such a class.
  25. I know we used to post warnings like this, but got away from it for some reason. I'll be trying to post when BOEALPS will have classes out and where they will be. First up, there will be an ice climbing seminar with 12 people on the lower Coleman Glacier on Mt Baker on Saturday October 15th and Sunday October 16th.
