    trip advice

I finally got a pair of boots that fit and now looking for some advice on crampons. I have the Kayland M11 and was wondering which crampons people use with these or recommend. I was looking at the Petzl Vasak Leverlock FIL and the Black Diamond Sabertooth Pro.

ok, officially the worst month i've had in a while. first my gf dumps me after i already paid for a plane ticket to visit her in denver so i fig not that bad i'll change the flight for the climbing trip. now i get a message from the guy that offered to take us up eldorado whom i've been in touch with for several months saying he no long feels comfortable with our lives in his hands. so my question now is, is eldorado that dangerous without previous climbing experience which i'm guessing is a yes even though the guy who was going to guide us said to go ahead and give it a shot by ourselves? i'm not a happy person now

i've been trying to get in shape. i have been using the workout guide for the rainier climb that was in outside magazine, but i wish there was some sort of fitness test to kind of let one know where he stands. maybe one of you could come up with something. and i'm sure there are going to be some smart ass comments to come my way due to the previous sentence haha

haha i love seeing people get into it on forums. i think i have a pretty good idea about what is safe and what isn't. mountaineering is foreign to me, but from what i've read/been advised on adams south side, it seems very doable. maybe i'm completely wrong. someone has offered to guide a friend and me up eldorado and then we are probably going to attempt adams. we have been training and do have appropriate gear. i guess we'll find out in a few months if it's too difficult/dangers and i come back broken or don't come back at all haha.

yeah a guide service would be helpful but pretty much all of my money has gone to gear and the trip in general. i really do appreciate all the advice because without it i wouldn't have a slight clue of what to do

Would Shuksan and Silver Star be doable for two newbies and only experience we will have gotten from the guy taking us up Eldorado a few days beforehand and what we have read?

ok, im starting to rethink climbing mt. adams after we climb eldorado peak due to distance between the two and us having a rental car. any suggestions for similar climb in the north cascades or somewhere else that would be close?

i take it, long hike in if road is closed. i'll def. hit you up medic when time gets a little closer to make sure my info matches up with your adams info. what about the gear?

or those similar climbs to mt. adams and eldorado? would we be able to do those ourselves or need to get the guy that was going to take us up eldorado?

oh damn, that's not good. what date range would you recommend for the trip? i'll be pissed if i get out there and can't climb. when you say bad weather what do you mean?

    trip advice

i have about finished with the gear purchases. just needing some help on general plans for the trip such as airport and places to camp. my friend and i have made plans to climb eldorado peak with someone and then plan to climb mt. adams ourselves. i am wondering what the weather is typically like in mid june for those climbs. tips on where to camp and logistics for the trip would be greatly appreciated. so if anyone is good at planning trips send me a pm. also, what is the best way to get all of our gear out there?
  19. i just bought the marmot precip pants, otherwise i'd take you up on your offer DPS. anyone know anything about the mammut mamook gtx boots? im thinking about getting a used pair from whittaker mountaineering but im a little hesitant since they're used. i'm wondering if they'll smell, be worn out. i emailed them and they said they were part of the rental fleet for a few months. what do yall think
  20. i am looking for a pair of hardshell pants. i need a 30 inch inseam and am having a hard time finding the right kind. i'm going to be climbing the eldorado peak and adams in june so i have a little time. i can get 40% of mountain hardwear, patagonia, the north face and possibly arcteryx. ill get the beta ar pants if i can but if not what would yall recommend?

i'm looking for some gloves and found the black diamond soloist for $80. are these good gloves or should i look at something else? i don't want really bulky gloves but i want them to be warm and have good dexterity as well. any recommendations would be appreciated

i understand what yall are saying about the boots. i do plan on doing a lot of mountaineering and def plan on taking a trip to alaska not too far down the road so i would like to go with a boot that will work for everything. with that being said is it still a bad idea to go with a double plastic boot? if i could get a pair of scarpa omegas for around 250 would it make it not as bad of an idea haha?

Thanks for all the info and advice. I'm going to get a pair of boots and the two I'm looking at are Scarpa Inverno and the Omega. Any other suggestions. I know some will tell me those are overkill, but I plan on doing higher elevation climbs eventually and climbing during late winter/early spring and I really don't have the money to spend on two pairs of boots. Also, will the Arcteryx bora 80 pack I have work for most climbs or should I look for a lighter pack as well?

Thanks for all the great advice and info. I really appreciate it. Sorry to hear that Daniel. I hope you get to feeling better. I just recently found out I had a tumor on a nerve in my knee and things weren't looking so good but turned out ok. I hope things turn around for you
