  1. This thread needs to die.
Why? We've just hit 5 pages! Only 5 more and we can start talking about global warming... :)

    Oh, and :pagetop:

I think global warming is a conspiracy...but who is behind it?! Con-spire... a spire..like chianti spire, chianti is a wine..wine, Italy is famous for wine...and Italians like pasta...pasta, hmmm... cleary the Olive Graden is involved somehow.

  2. Dawg, you are right on the money with this one.

No one seems to notice that we're living in a police state.

No one notices because America is not a police state. People who live in a police state tend to notice. America has laws and police but is certainly not a police state.

The police locked down the area to catch a deadly psychopath, whom was far more dangerous to the lives of Americans than a short lockdown of a mountain lodge.

  3. Im living in Istanbul for a few months and bought a guitar with what is easily the ugliest pick guard Ive ever seen. Supposedly the dealer had a hard time selling it prior to my interest...

  4. If your fingers getting sore ease off a little bit, the last thing you wnt is a serious pulley injury.

As to reinforcing with tape, it absolutely does work. I've had 4 major pulley ruptures in 3 different fingers and have used solid x-taping techniques while recovering and continuing as a climber with much benefit.

If you want support make sure the x-tape partically covers your knuckle. Your mobility will be decreased but as the finger bends it's going drag the tape into the underside of your finger creating quite a bit of support.

Bandaiding a pre-injury soreness probably isn't a good idea though.

  5. Trip: Kalymnos, Greece -

    Date: 4/5/2011

    Trip Report:

For spring break this year I took a trip to Kalymnos with Misty along with some of her coleagues who besides ones guy, we pretty much non-climbers.

We met up in Turkey again and headed out from there. Unless you fly into Athens and then fly to Kalymnos it's a pretty long travel day. It goes something like bus, plane, bus, ferry, bus, ferry, bus.

Kalymnos is an amazing island. Easily among the coolest places I've ever been. The amount of rock there is staggering for such a small'ish island, and of spectacular quality. In the spring there is a ton of naturally growing herbs in the hills and mountains so the air smells great; it gives it a bit more of that island paradise vibe.

The Island is easy to travel around by moped, and they're fairly inexpensive to rent. Unfortunately, day three saw one of our troupe cruise into oncoming traffic and get his scooter run over by a huge truck. Luckily, he and the passenger came out pretty unscathed. I wish I'd taken a picture of the mangled bike, but it didn't seem proper at the time. He had to buy the scooter and got a ticket for running a stop sign.

The climbing we did was pretty mellow, but still really fun. About a month and a half before the trip I earned a severe pulley tear in my left ring, so pulling was pretty much out. That and we were taking some new climbers out. One of em was even leading by the second day. One of the guys, Rob, was an experienced climber and wanted to send some proper steep limestone so I belayed him for part of a day on some really nice looking routes.

There are a lot of hikes as well. We did one loop hike that gains one of the impressive mountainous ridges that bisect the island. It was a little longer and steeper than our non-hiker friends were led to believe.

Then of course there was secluded beach chillin time.

Kalymnos is a wonderful place. I highly recommend it. Check out Harry's on the far side of the island for nice accomodations and good people.

    Gear Notes:

    35m rope. Draws.

  6. I'd argue that OBL was not a 'non-combatant'. He was as close to an enemy of America as it gets.

Logical and moral consitencies do not require you to criticize Obama for his execution of the 'war on terror'. IDEALIST logic and morals do, but there is no consensus on what "morality" and "logic" are.

  7. Cheering for the deaths of thousands of civilians is much worse than cheering for the death of an islamofacist terrorist, self descibed as the enemy of America.

    I see your point though.

  8. Dude, Peter Mortimer and Hot Aches should get down to Beacon and stop filming guys like MacLeod taking normal falls and actually shoot some real whippers.

I watched this video of Katie Brown taking a massive whipp... oh wait, thats just a normal fall too.... someone should tell her to sack up and take some real falls.

  9. The aid fall wasn't a long fall by aid standards; MacLeod's taking longish clean falls; and the last one in the vid isn't a whipper, it was either a bad placement or a mistake in judgment. I took a 40-50' fall out at Beacon not that long ago that was pretty much exactly like MacLeod's and I'd say it was just approaching longish compared to falls my old partner and I took bitd. Plus, I really prefer clean falls with more rope out and stretch than short, hard ones.

But I do agree with the idea if you're not falling your not really pushing it.

    Wow, you're badass.

    MacLeod's "longish" fall...lol

For 99% of climbers, 40+ footers are big whippers. Aside from some errant bravado attitude, I'm quite sure this is the general concensus, even amongst high end climbers.

  10. Where was the overwhelming outrage when Mt. Garfield was rap-bolted in your own backyard??

The article isn't about infinite bliss, this might be what you're looking for.

    Mt garfield thread

    Edit-

Failed logic is also rejecting that there are nuances involved in the importance and stature of forests and rocks around the world. There is a difference.

  11. He plans to acheive this over 5 years is says? If they rap bolt a line down Cerro Torre this year it'll be gone next. Why even make another attempt? The goal is so obviously in contempt of the recognized style of ethics. What does he plan to achieve?
