  1. I was wondering if anyone had walked in this year and if they have any beta on the devastator creek crossing?
  2. I'm 26 and just started working for myself, so my schedule is pretty flexible. All my normal buddies have 9-5 jobs . I'm an extremely mediocre rock climber - have followed alpine routes to ~5.7 with no problems and have just started leading easier stuff (i can lead sport to around 5.9). I can also climb easy ice (AI/WI 3 or so) and ski just about anything. I usually do slog glacier trips and scrambles, and would welcome partners to do those too! I'm in good shape (have a few 7k+ days in this spring), but usually plant a beer cache or two key points on the decent. Thanks, Eli - spcmanspiff at gmail.com
  3. well, i saw an incident in the Adirondacks four or five years ago where a bear came into a camp site. A jackass had food in his tent, and there are friendly bears there... So, when the bear was rummaging around the campsite, this guy pulled out his 45 and started shooting in the direction of the bear in a crowded campsite. Fun, eh?
  4. http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/06/13/guns.park/index.html I can't wait until people are carrying, i mean, you just can't get away from those drug dealers at paradise... Contact the department of interior to protest! http://www.regulations.gov/fdmspublic/component/main?main=SubmitComment&o=090000648053d497 On second thought, i'm not sure what to do if you run into any wierdos or deviants in the north cascades besides shooting them - i mean, what would you do if you happend up on this? _t6SG1yCW7Y
  5. Chasing the sun, Snoslut and I decended on Silverstar. A long, dark skin in yielded a day of windpack powder under bluebird skies. We skinned in late Friday night from winthrop to avoid snowmobiles, and made camp at silverstar creek. Dropped our overnight stuff off at the basin ~4500' and continued up to the saddle. The ski down was some nice, wind packed pow. It took us a while to get up due to snow conditions, so made it back to the basin just as it got dark; and then skied out sunday. 6. Trip: East Peak - Snowmonsters Attack! Date: 2/4/2008 Trip Report: Saturday was deep and fairly light. Stability was marginal, so we were pretty cautious - cracking and wumping on some aspects. Sunday was not as deep - it settled about a foot and a half I think, but the stability was excellent. more pics and more detailed TR http://elibcblog.blogspot.com/
  7. Some friends and I are looking for a 10-14 day traverse in alaska or the coast range for the end of june - something with scrambling/low 5th class and easy glaciers. Difficult navigation and shwacking are quite all right. Does anyone have any suggestions or places to look for trip reports? Thanks! -Eli
  8. I have a pair of 185 cm rossingol T4s mounted with medium free rides - the skis are in good shape, no core shots and were previously mounted with tele binders. The bindings are almost new - ridden a handful of times. Bought to ski resorts & lift served BC but only rode lifts 3 times this year! Not really worth having a dedicated setup... $450+shipping? Or pickup from seattle. The skins are BCA low fat, trimmed for ~70mm waist. Decent condition. $50? pm me for pics!

    BCA Alp 55

BCA Alp 55, last years model in good condition - $100?
  10. Brand new, just drilled for alpine bindings. I think these are a few years ago models. They have never touched the snow. 110-68-97 (measured). They weight ~2lbs each, for a superlight setup. $250 or make me an offer. I'd also be willing to trade for a pair of ~180 fatties. Very well used 180cm TM:22s (blue version). They are mounted with fritschi diamirs (an older variety) - the bindings have never been used. I did the binding mount myself, and one of the heel pieces is lightly off kilter - i'd get them re-mounted. I mounted these as my rock skiis, but never ended up using them for this purpose. The bases are pretty scratched up, and the edges have quite a few nicks. I also have skins cut to fit - $150 for skiis & bindings, $40 for skins - or make an offer. The bindings are XL, fitting boots 330mm and up. pm or e-mail me for pictures!
  11. Yeah - we were up at the inspiration/mccalaster col that day. The static was crazy, it was like my head was tingling. The cloud deck topped out around 7,000 if i remember correctly, and it was quite a view watching the clouds spill over from the cascade river road valley onto the basin the inspiration glacier drops into.
  12. I'm looking for a lightweight 2L pot and lid - it'd be nice if the pot holder was integrated. Or does anyone know where I can get the MSR blacklight pot & lid without the rest of the cook kit?
  13. i'll take the pickets if they are still available
  14. roped glacier travel would be an option, thanks for all of the great ideas!
  15. A few of my friends from out east are coming out the first week of july we're planning a six or seven day trip - we'd like to do a cross country traverse in the PNW or BC, but they do not have the requisite skills for any protected routes. Our primary plan is a variation of the baily traverse, but we'd like a backup in the north cascades or BC if the weather looks crappy in the olympics, any ideas?
  16. Does anyone have any resources to find the cloud ceiling, specifically around rainier, besides the NOAA page with pilot's reports?
  17. Brand new sabertooth front rails, of the step in variety. Bought them for tele boots, but they still don't fit . They were $60, make an offer.
  18. are these still available? I'm very interested. Are you in the seattle area?
  19. The NNN BC boots run about an average 13 US street shoe size. As for the NNN skis, they are pretty easy to handle and since they are primarily for touring on mild terrain, length doesn't matter all of that much. I weigh about 200lbs, but i've had friends use them who are ~160, and they worked well.
  20. I'm planning on doing quite a bit of sport climbing (rope weight not really an issue) this summer, so I figure i'll bite the bullet and buy a rope - however, i'm also looking to buy a glacier/alpine rope (class I&II routes) for this spring. Should I get a non-dry rope for sport climbing and a 30mx8mm glacier rope? Or are the thinner dry ropes durable enough to withstand multiple falls from a heavy (200 lbs) beginning climber whom is hard on gear? It seems as though a non-dry rope and the rando rope combined are about the same price as a thin dry rope... Any recomendations for any of the above would be greatly appreciated.
  21. I just got the etrex ledgend c, and the garmin mapsource 24k topo set - it includes MRNP, NCNP and the olympics. They vectorized the contour lines, roads and trails and such, which makes for some neat features. Makes it nice and easy to pinpoint your location in a whiteout. The battery supposedly lasts 30 hours too. I've had the same battery in it for two full day (~8 hour) ski tours and its been ok - I did turn the battery saving thing on, so it calculates the position less often.
  22. 700 fill north face summit series down jacket (yellow) from a few years ago. Great warm jacket, but too big for me - it is fairly well used, but has lots of life left in it. I'd like to get $100. I'm around downtown seattle if anyone wants to check it out. make an offer?
  23. 190 cm karhu jaks (127-97-117) with black bases (2004 model). Mounted once for VP-IIs, topsheets are a bit scratched (this model had a easily scratchable topsheet). Bases are in good conditions - skied about 5 days, a few superficial scratches. $200+shipping. NNN boots - alpina, thinsulate insulated. A few years old, but very lightly used, size 13. Track Bushwacker skis, 190 cm, 85-70-80 with rotefella NNN BC bindings. Have been well used, however are in excellent condition. Skis+bindings $75, boots $25. Have long swix poles with powder baskets - buy skis & boots, and i'll throw them in. All negotiable - make me an offer!
  24. Has anyone used the 24k maps on the gpsmap series? I was also wondering about the alignment - reviews i've read of the similar magellan units say sometimes the topo map isn't aligned correctly. On a 100k map, a small deviation wouldn't make a big difference, but on a 24k, its definitely noticeable - i've used similar products on a laptop with a connected GPS, where I had to align a .jpg of a map myself and it worked well, but who knows how well it was done for all of these maps. As far as using it is concerned, i'm definitely going to bring a paper map & altimeter with me, but it'd be nice to have a quick way to pinpoint/verify the location without guestimating with the UTM grid on the paper map. Knowing what terrain is above me after the clouds roll in would also be a plus Smile. This also makes it pretty easy to check the GPS & altimeter/compass nav against eachother.
  25. These have been in my pack for a few trips, but have never touched the ground. They come with the BD anti-bot plates and are size L. Will drop off on the east side of seattle, or ship to anywhere in the lower 48 for $90.
