  1. So I need to replace my rope. Will be climbing mostly in Squamish and sometimes in Cheak Canyon. Will be leading 5.7 to 5.10s. Sometimes TR hard stuff. Will be climbing single pitches to multi-pitches on the Chief. I walked into MEC and the guys advise I get something like these: Beal booster 9.7 http://www.mec.ca/Products/product_detai...D=1145319171979 Edelrid livewire 9.8 http://www.mec.ca/Products/product_detai...D=1145319171979 Edelrid Fat Rock slim 10MM http://www.mec.ca/Products/product_detai...D=1145319171981 I'm wandering for a guy like me, who would be only leading lower grades should be afraid of skinnier rope that there recommending? Or, should I be looking for a rope that's 10.2 to 10.5. My first rope, which is still the one I'm using is a 10.5 mm.
  2. first wknd out into the backcountry this yr. Just wandering if anyone has gone to the Manning park area this yr? Specifically Hatchethead mtn. Concerned about snow level, avy condition and if I can skin from the parking lot. Also, any latest news in the Duffey lake area. Considering also Wendy Thomson or Vantage (Cerise). I'm a novice at Avy assessment and a bit worried about conditions. Anyone else worried?
  3. anyone have ridden on any of these planks before? http://www.movementskis.com/ looking for some AT skis
  4. Making a last minute decision to Leavenworth to try out the climbing this wknd. Anybody recommend good climb there? Also, we've never been there so if you guys know of a good website with climbing routes and areas to start us off that would be great.
  5. I'm looking to buy a new/used pair of telemark skis and bindings. Just a beginner with the intent of practising on the resorts and progressing into the backcountry with them. I'm a downhill/AT skier right now and would just to try something different. I've never bought teles before and don't know how to size them. I'm 5'10" and weight 170 lbs. Also, what's the difference btwn a tele and slalom ski? Any recommendation on teles and bindings would be appreciated.
  6. I just completed a general mountaineering course and would like to purchase a rope. It'll be for glacier travel most of the time. Ideally, I would like the rope for alpine rock as well. Is there a rope that's good for both? What diameter do you guys suggest? What length? Should I consider buying 2 half ropes and use one of them for glacier travel and bring both of them if I'm doing more alpine rock? Just to let you know what kind of trips I'll be doing initially, I live in BC and plan do some trips like Shuksan, Eldorado (Cascades), Wedge, Vayu, Joffre, Viennese, Rexford. Any advice would be appreciated.
  7. I need new backcountry AT skis for next year. Currently using my old K2 Explorers on dynafit bindings. The skis are approx 190 cm and I'm 5'10". The skis have lost their 'life' and I find it a tad too long when I'm skining up those steep slopes and have to make a corner. A couple of questions: 1. For those about my height, what lenght are your skis? 2. Any skis you guys like? I'm an aggressive skier 3. What's the difference btwn regular downhill skis and AT skis? I've heard that ATs are lighter. Is this because they compromise performance? I really don't know the difference btwn these two types.
  8. So I need new downhill boots when I need a break from the backcountry and would like to rip it up in Whistler. In the backcountry I used the dynafit binding system. Not to sound arrogant, I consider myself an aggressive skier and always looking for the steep stuff. Can you guys recommend a good stiff boot that would work both in the downhill and in the backcountry that would fit the dynafit bindings? Trying to kill 2 birds with one stone here if possible TIA
  9. thanks all! It this true? The rubber is not good for Squamish? This worries me! I"m not the most confident climber and I need all the help I can get!
  10. I purchase size 40.5 and 41 Mythos and testing them out at home to see which one to keep. I use a 42-42.5 for my hiking boots just to let you know how many sizes down I bought the shoes. Currently, with the 41, my big toe is flat. Given the nature of the shoe (front end), my other toes are slightly curled and squeezed together. For all those with these shoes, do the Mythos stretch lengthwise and widthwise? How much? Judging by my description, am I sizing them correctly? I'll be using these mostly in Squamish. Not doing hard grades (to 5.9 lead, 5.11 low top rope and apron multi-pitches) TIA
