where do you live?
-
I always cringe of going there because of the road. Anyone been up there lately? Is the road to parking lot cleared of snow and ice? Can you start skinning from the parking lot?
-
Have anyone used this shoe yet? I need to replace my Mythos. Mythos were a bit wide for me and loose in the heel. The gambit fit me best while trying some shoes out at MEC. I'm looking for shoes for Squamish. Mostly for crack climbs, day use, some multi-pitches. Any other shoes you guys can recommend?

is it generally warm enough to climb in Skaha during April - specifically this easter long wknd. Taking a friend who's just learning. Can you guys recommend crags in Skaha good for top roping?

dynafit/garmont mega-ride gear acting up
goldenchild replied to goldenchild's topic in The Gear Critic
yes I do have brakes...thanks for the advice -
just wandering if anyone else is having this problem: Just yesterday I went on a tour and the back piece of my Dynafit TLT comfort binding always rotates by itself from walk mode to ski mode. The boot would click in and I can't get any heel lift! Obviously very annoying. Have any other people mentioned this problem as well? I really need to get this resolved. It's pissing me off.

climbing in halong bay
goldenchild replied to goldenchild's topic in The rest of the US and International.
ooooooooooookay. Those grades are a tad high for me . I'm only a 5.10 climber at best. Say, I live in Vancouver too. If you care to meet up and tell me about your adventures there, PM me. -
anyone been there and can tell me of their adventures? I'll be there for 3 weeks starting end of Jan '07. Trying to find topos, guidebooks, partners etc.

don't see the Ice pack you speak of: http://www.bdel.com/gear/packs_overview.php
-
I'm kinda impressed at how small some of yr packs are. This is what I bring for the winter and was curious if you guys carry the same and what size pack you put it in. Keep mind this is for backcountry skiing mostly 2 days. No mountaineering in consideration, just powder searching Essentials: -12 Down bag down parka Prolite 4S regular length sleeping pad stove fuel pots cup spoon lighter small first aid kit glasses sunglasses contact solution spare ski pole basket probe shovel jacket spare gloves tent (1-2 person), don't like bivy sack in the winter 2 x 1L nalgene. One in the sack, one clipeed in front for easy access food Nice to have ============ booties - for colder wknds goggles snow saw whiskey probably some stuff I forgot to have. with the probe, shovel, and tent on the outside I can only seem to fit everything else inside in a 60-70 L pack.

time to buy a new pack. Looking for one for mostly weekend excursions for backcountry skiing. Looking for one in the 65-70L range. Larger capacity because alot of times will be tenting by myself which means I also carry the stove and pots etc. So far I've looked at the Arcteryx Needle 65, Bora 65 and the Osprey Crescent 70. Any opinion will be appreciated.

anyone know of a good site for updated new climbs and topos?

may as well post my question on this thread since I was gonna ask something similar. Was looking for a set of half ropes. Am I being stupid in not being able to decide between getting a 8.5mm or a 8 mm diameter rope? Does 0.5mm really make that much of a difference in terms of safety? Was considering the Mammut Phoenix or the Genesis http://www.mammut.ch/mammut/katalog.asp?view=detail&did=9&dart=4&tid=4509&sid=2 http://www.mammut.ch/mammut/katalog.asp?view=detail&did=10&dart=4&tid=4514&sid=2

getting conflicting answers from people I know. To get to Statlu lake, would I have to address the infamous 100 odd waterbars over the last 5 kms? Or just a minor portion of it?
-
can't get a really straight answer...I realize that you don't have to pay to do any actual climbing of Liberty Bell. But, do you require a parking pass for the parking lot? Can you stay overnight and do they gate it? If you can't stay overnight in the parking lot then where can you car camp? By that I mean sleeping in the back of my truck.

k, I"m buying a guide book. Looking at Amazon I see several you can buy. Anyone have a favourite?

heading there for the first time. Can anyone provide links to good route topo/beta, camping etc. TIA

J_Kirby I actually emailed Mammut. The Supersafe has a triosafe not triodess feature now. This means they have a black dye for the middle marker and for 5 M from each end. This replaces the triodess. Thanks for your posts.
-
J Kirby, Thanks. For obvious reasons, I really like the duodess feature of the Mammut ropes. But the Supersafe doesn't have this. Has the dye they use for the middle marker run out for you? My other option is the Mammut flash 10.5 duodess
-
I like the Mammut Supersafe 10.2 - a very tough, but very supple rope... I'm considering the Supersafe or Mammut's 10.5 Duodess, Superdry. I've read that the Supersafe is Triosafe meaning there's marking halfway and 5 meters from the ends. Did you find that these markings wear over time?

"We managed to park at the 5km mark on the Brohm Ridge road. Lots of fresh snow, shin deep powder. Also lots of windloading on the North slopes." k, I'm trying to convince my buddy to use the Brohm Ridge way. How high up is this 5 Km mark? How's the road here? Never been up this way.

oh, now I get it. Sorry this old fart not in tune with current lingo. Does Led Zep, AC/DC and some Chemical Bros count as sick?
-
"mandatory sick beats though " Ahh.......can you clarify?
-
anyone climbed it recently would like to share info? Friend and I plan to do it this wknd from Elfin lake side. Wandering if I need crampons, and the road conditions to the parking lot. Worried if my car can make it up.

any opinion on Maxim ropes?
