You can rent technical tools at Mountain Magic in Banff. Great if you want to give leashless tools a try or are new to ice climbing and want to sample tools before shelling out your hard earned cash.

I previously used the Super 9's (blue/orange) for general mountaineering and loved them to death. My replacements were a pair of the insulated (Thinsulate)Super 9's (black/neon yellow). They have been fantastic for ice climbing in SW British Columbia and also in the Rockies, including some -25 Celsius mornings. They are rigid enough to create a nice stable platform. As far as size, you just need to try them on.
