A friend and I are looking for a 3rd person to climb Rainier the weekend of 8/21-22 on a basic route. We are currently investigating the preferable route based on late season conditions. It may be DC or Emmons.
PM me if interested.

I'd like to climb Rainier on a basic route in late August. Anybody have general or specific feedback on conditions this time of year? What is/are the preferable route(s) at this time? DC? Emmons?
Otherwise, which Cascade volcano(es) is/are best in late August, in terms of conditions and hazards?
Thanks
Good for you Jeff! There are certainly situations where a person can take unnecessary risks (e.g., climbing in areas with high risk of avalanche or ice fall). But there are also routes people can take that make them a better climber. That's why Easton Glacier is not the only route people climb up Baker. From what I understand, the route you took was probably a great experience.
And I love the pictures!
Define "absolute newbie". You mean someone who doesn't even know how to tie to a rope?
We want someone who at least knows basic glacier travel skills, such as tieing to a rope for glacier travel, using crampons, prusiking out of a crevasse, Z-pulley, etc.
Alex - A friend and I are talking about climbing Mazama or another easy Adams glacier in a couple weeks. How do the crevasses look on Mazama now? Also, did you need to use ice screws at any time?
Two of us are planning to climb Mt Adams on 9/13-14, and are looking for a third partner. We haven't decided on a route yet, but we'd like to do one of the easier glaciers (perhaps Mazama). We both have glacier experience and crevasse rescue skills.
PM me if interested.
woland and I scrambled up the south face of Del Campo on Sunday. Great climb! The route follows Beckey's guide and the comments made in this post. It's obvious. I took the easier class 3 route and went left of the gully. woland (who is a hard-core rock climber) went straight up the gully to the 5.0 stuff.
The last 1.2 miles back to the car on the road sucked. My feet were killing me!
Jesse Bacon....Your words hold no truth. Everything I wrote about you can be found in a google search, with perhaps the exception of your solstice parade tirade. For that, there are many witnesses to your obscene behavior. You are a loser.
