  1. Those names don't appear in the information I have. Would you be willing to show me those routes? I have found that a few routes have a number of names. Mtneer
  2. Hi All, As you probably know, the Climbers Guide to the Olympic Mountains is undergoing a major revision for the 4th time. The 4th edition will include a section on Crags & Sport Routes. Cushman/McCleary Cliffs will be included in this section. Judson Lang, and other members of the Olympia Mountaineers have shared much excellent information for this area. However, we have found that there are new routes, especially east (right) of Upper & Lower Open Book, that we have no information on. We would appreciate any one having info about routes on these cliffs, sharing that info with us. You may contact me here or go to our website at: http://www.olympicmountainrescue.org. Thanks Mtneer

  4. Hi All, I am posting info on access to some areas I memtioned earlier. A few are really obvious. The Hama Hama area is 11+ miles up that road. The Dosi Falls area is equally obvious but it is best to take a bike after the washout. Steeple Rock is about a quarter of the way out to Obstruction Point from Hurricane Ridge. It is best appoached from the east. Now for the less obvious ones. Mt.Crag Access: USFS Road 2620 can be accessed either from The Walker Pass area on Highway 101 or from the Dosiwallips road via Rocky Brook Road. The latter is longer but has a lower pucker factor. By either route you will reach a pass area where you can travel west on the 050 spur. Follow this spur until you reach the ‘Y’ with the 056 spur. Park here and walk west on the decaying 050 spur to the logging platform. Angle upward and west to surmount an intermediate ridge. After you are past this ridge the many faces of the Crag are yours to explore. Ellinor Towers Access: Driving direction are the same as for the upper Ellinor trailhead. Take the Big Creek logging road (#2419) for 6.2 miles to spur road #014. On the 014 spur you come to a replanted clearcut on the uphill (west) side of the road. A few hundred yards short of the trailhead you will reach the upper (south) end of the clearcut. Find parking here near where the road crosses the South Fork of Big Creek. Find a way trail on the north side of the creek. The way trail travels through Beargrass meadows, generally paralleling the creek. Near the top of the clearcut, contour around the south end of the large rounded rocks that define the top boundary of the clearcut. Once on the backside, continue to top of the rock. Hiking time to this point is 10 to 20 minutes. From the top of the Boundary Rock, the other towers are most easily reached by climbing west starting just north of the small boulder field until the top of the small talus field is reached. The other rocks are most easily reached by contouring at this level until below the desired rock and then climbing up the appropriate gully.
  5. It is unlikely that Chimacum Rock will be in the guide. As best we can determine, it is on private property. If this is incorrect I would love to have it in the guide. We simply cannot publish information on climbing areas that are not on public property. I will try to post information here, as to how to access the sites mentioned, later today. MTNEER
  6. Thanks for the info. I will very definately pass this along to the section leader for the Hama Hama area. For the Crags and Sport Routes section I wanted to keep the approach times down to about 15 to 20 minutes or less. Now I know there are a few of you hotshots out there who could do a mile and a half up hill with a pack in 20 min., but I would guess that is not average. Please keep the info coming. Thanks Dale
  7. The information for these areas is sketchy. I have a few route descriptions on Steeple. Have had some input from the Oly Mountaineers about McCleary Cliffs. Have found bolt and pitons in some of the other areas.
  8. The guys at Olympic Mountaineering (Steve & Jack) have been very generous in sharing information with us about the Elwah Canyon routes. Quite an extraordinary place I might add.
  9. Hi All As you may know, Olympic Mountain Rescue is doing a complete (as possible) rewrite of the Cimbers Guide to the Olympic Mountains. This new edition will include a section on Crags and Sport Routes. As a result I am seeking information on the following areas. Steeple Rock - near Hurricane Ridge Mt. Crag - east of Mt. Walker off Hwy 101 Dosewallips Walls - near the falls Hama Hama river Walls - about 11 miles up the river McCleary Cliffs - above Lake Cushman Ellinor Towers - above the clear cut near Ellinor trailhead If you have information about these sites you may post them to me or to the unit website www.olympicmountainrescue.org Thanks Dale Boyle
  10. The high Dosi bridge has been replaced
  11. Actually this will be the 4th edition of this guide. Dale
  12. Hi All, Olympic Mountain Rescue is revising the “Climbers Guide to the Olympic Mountains”. We are working with our publisher - The Mountaineers, to make this a full on revision. That being the case, we are strongly urging all climbers to send us information that they know should be in the guide. Such as: Route descriptions that need update, New Routes, Rock climbs and/or rock climbing areas, Ice/winter routes, High Alpine traverses, historical info. Time is a critical element. We need to have this info as soon as possible. Submissions would be most useful prior to the end of Sept. Please check out our web site at: www.olympicmountainrescue.org. Contact information is listed there. Thanks Dale Boyle Vice Chairman OMR
