I got a permit from a friend who couldn't use it. I called the ranger station and they said it was no problem to pick up the permit and use it even though it wasn't in my name.

Was there on Saturday. We started from Silver Star Creek - snow began as you start climbng from the basin, roughly 5400 feet. Snow conditions above 6500 feet were generally skiable. We went down the col route - there was snow for about 1000 feet below the col.

Laura was probably there scouting out new forest lands to be logged by George's friends...
