If I recall, there were two people using the king5 avatar

    during the last fiasco.

there are two of us -- i use "king5news" -- a co-worker (also behind the scenes assignments type) uses newstips cantfocus.gif

  2. (iain) sorry I took so long to respond. busy weekend.

unfortunately I can only assign stories. I can't force reporters to act reasonably or ethically. I can honestly say this is the most reasonable and ethical outfit I've worked for (and there have been several.) I know for some that ain't saying much -- but if they ever experienced the difference they'd probably kiss my feet!

we're trying to do a better job when it comes to covering overdue/missing climbers AND hikers (recognizing there's a difference.) hopefully you'll be patient with us. (and invite us to a pub visit sometime!) bigdrink.gif

I think the problem with this poster named King5news is that it is just one person in the company who does not speak for the whole of the company. It would be nice if this poster had a name. You're not Jeff Renner are you? And heaven forbid if you're the curly redhead.

Yes, I'm a behind the scenes person -- one of the people who decides which stories we cover. Yes, I have auburn hair -- but, I can only WISH that it were curly. I have to pay for that! No, I'm not JF. cool.gif

  4. (iain) so much for your thoughts that we're only here when something bad happens.

as a matter of fact I check in at least once or twice a day and look forward some tuesday to "pub-ing" with you all so you can see that we're not all bad people and we actually enjoy life and its pursuit!! bigdrink.gif

  5. yeah. we're forced into the registration thing by corporate. arrgh. i just tell people to make up a name.

they went up friday - were due back yesterday afternoon. rainier is telling us one thing -- the family something else. telling us they're NOT searching and won't 'til maybe tomorrow. telling the family they CAN'T search because of conditions.

    is this normal?

  6. you're welcome.

    so do we.

the family of one of the hikers called us. they're looking for advice on what to do. I steered them toward this board -- hopefully you all can help and lend them moral support. supposedly one of them is pretty experienced - though the wife isn't sure he took any extra supplies.

  7. I know. It was us. We're TRYING to do better -- that's why I thought I'd just pass on the info. Not seeking advice. Not seeking information -- just passing on info to people who will care.

Thanks for being friendly about it. I appreciate it. While I'm not a climber I did hike (pre-baby) and look forward to doing it again once she gets bigger.

  8. Just thought I'd let you all know -- there are two more overdue climbers on Mt. Rainier. A Seattle area man and a partner (unnamed) were to return home yesterday. The search is in the beginning stages. Few details available yet.

Please keep them in your prayers.

  9. We're trying to track down people who knew him. We've got a crew enroute to talk to the Baker folks now. This is hitting the "brotherhood" pretty hard. Just wanted locals who might have known him to know. These are the sorts of stories I hate covering. They're never good. Its impossible to pay tribute to "legends" like Kelly that do them justice.

  10. Just as an fyi to all who helped and were patient with "newstips" last night. It turns out one of the Canadians killed was actually from our neck of the woods. Craig Kelly. Used to do Baker. Anyone remember him? Our condolences are with the family and friends.
