  5. The only Canadian date is Montreal on 11/7---see http://www.powderwhore.com/tour.shtml
  6. Feck - I think it is mostly a teleflick---I'm on AT too & personally, I'd rather see a flick with AT, tele & snowboarders----and some other breakout sport just to keep it interesting. Too much of any one thing gets old. As for giving some money to NWAC--the Friends annual fundraiser will be 11/17 at the Tractor again. I'll post a notice here closer to the date. Tallboys are playing again----it'll be a good time.
  7. Powderwhore is proud to present their 3rd telemark ski movie PW07. We will be in Seattle on Sat. Oct. 13th at 6p.m. at The Nectar Lounge. It will be $10 at the door. $3 raffle tickets will be available with the proceeds benefiting Friends of Northwest Weather and Avalanche Center. We have teamed up with Marmot Mountainworks to bring you an amazing show. Check out www.powderwhore.com to see trailer or check tour schedule. Thank You. PW07 Powderwhore Productions Review by Mitch Weber of Telemarktips.com October 1, 2007- For months we have been hearing from the Powderwhores that PW07 would have a different groove then the Utah-based crew's previous Wasatch-centric productions. A very late start to winter in their home mountains forced the Powderwhores to hit the road. "We got into February and realized we had no movie," Noah Howell told us in a recent interview, "so we did what everybody else was doing and headed north." As it turns out, we all probably owe our brothers and sisters in the Wastach a debt of gratitude... you could say that they mostly took one for the team last winter as their homegrown Powderwhores were finally forced out of their nest... it's clear that their loss was our gain: PW07 is a masterpiece on many levels, but none more for the way that the film unselfconsciously documents the exciting state of the sport of telemark skiing, here at the latter part of the first decade of the 21st century. This probably would not have happened if Utah had not failed to go off early last season. Wonderfully paced and without apparently trying, PW07 takes the viewer on a ride which covers the main elements of freeheel skiing as it has evolved in the modern era. Technique is well represented by some of the strongest and most talented tele skiers ever captured on film, including young phenom Nick Devore, who made history last year at the alpine world's premier big-mountain competition, the US Freeskiing Championships at Snowbird. Devore turned heads as the first tele skier ever to make the finals, while also finishing 18th out of a field of 150 of the world's top freeskiing athletes. 9. Action Needed TODAY! Please urge your legislator to support funding for The Northwest Weather and Avalanche Center. Friends, NWAC needs your help! Governor Gregoire has appropriated funds for NWAC in her budget, but the recommended amount falls short of what NWAC needs to operate at full capacity for the next two years - and the legislature has yet to pass the budget! In order to ensure NWAC is able to provide its important avalanche forecasting service to the winter backcountry community, we must speak up to our elected officials, NOW! This is a very critical time for the NWAC - please take a minute and show your support. Call or e-mail your legislator and a member of the House Appropriations or Senate Ways and Means Committee and ask for the additional funding needed to keep the center fully operational in 2006 and 2007 - $105,000 from Parks and Recreation in 2006 and $120,000 from Parks & Recreation in 2007. You can find your legislator by searching on this website - http://www.leg.wa.gov/DistrictFinder/Default.aspx In addition, the following members of the House of Representatives will play a key role in this process. Call them too! Rep. Helen Sommers (D - 36th District - Seattle) Chair of the House Appropriations Committee. http://www1.leg.wa.gov/house/sommers (360) 786-7814 Rep. Fromhold (D - 49th District - Vancouver) Vice Chair of the House Appropriations Committee. http://www1.leg.wa.gov/house/fromhold (360) 786-7924 Rep. Kelli Linville (D - 42nd District - Bellingham) Mt. Baker is in her District. http://www1.leg.wa.gov/house/linville (360) 786-7854 Rep. Gary Alexander (R - 20th District - Olympia) Ranking Republican on the House Appropriations Committee. http://www1.leg.wa.gov/house/alexander (360) 786-7990 Rep. Mike Armstrong (R- 12th District - Wenatchee) Mission Ridge is in his District. http://www1.leg.wa.gov/house/armstrong (360) 786-7832
  10. The biggest difference is going to be in the boots. I doubt if you'll find that the Denalis are as stiff as your alpine boots (it is easy to compare). I would guess that you ought to keep an alpine setup for lifts.
  11. Friends of NWAC Fundraiser at REI reminder--- The new Teton Gravity Research ski flick is showing at REI as a Friends of NWAC benefit. Two shows... Thursday 14 Nov @ 7pm Friday 15 Nov @ 7pm $6 for REI or "Friends" members, $8 for non-members Cheers, Clyde
  12. The Avvy Center is $27,000 in the red for this year, so if additional funding is not obtained, the forecasts will end around March---meaning spring skiing & climbing forecasts will not be available. ...come one, come all.... Clyde
  13. Hey- The FUNC's builing capacity is ~500 and we've added a tent this year, so there will certainly be more space. Come one, come all Clyde
  14. I apologize if you couldn't get in last year. I believe the Freemont Unconventional Center expanded into the space that used to be RedHook's keg storage area. Hopefully this means that we'll be able to accomodate many more people this year. I'll confirm / deny that rumor and post again ASAP. c-ya Clyde
  15. Please come support the NW Avalanche Center at SNOWBASH on Saturday 11/16 at 8pm. Music, gear raffles, drinks, & more at the Freemont Unconventional Center (160 N Canal St, near Redhook). Thanks!! James
