How to make a scented candle

If you want to make decorative free-standing scented candles, you should first choose a paraffin or wax suitable for this type of candles. Pay attention to this when making a purchase. Some paraffins or waxes are too soft and are only suitable for candles filled in containers.

For this type of scented candle, you will need a mold. The molds can be plastic, metal or silicone. The latter have the widest possibilities in terms of shapes, ornaments and decorative notches. In addition to the usual forms for candles, we have the opportunity to use forms from recycled materials - any jar, whether it's a can of drinks or a can of green peas, an old glass, will be an ideal form for a candle. Any cardboard juice boxes are also perfect.

Remember that a free-standing candle should be placed "upside down". In practice, this means that the bottom of the mold will be the top of your candle. The mold must have a hole in the bottom through which the wick can be stretched. The wick should be about 3 cm long when you pull it through the candle (it's better to cut off the excess than to look for the wick in the candle). To prevent the wick from being sucked into the mold during the pouring of paraffin or wax or during the solidification of paraffin or wax, it is recommended to fix it in the mold with plasticine or plaster. This will also seal the mold and prevent liquid paraffin from leaking out.

Since each wick has two ends, we need to move on to the rest of the wick. So far, the wick is attached on one side. The remaining part of the wick is slightly stretched and positioned so that it passes vertically through the center of the mold. A good way to do this is to tie the wick with a stick, for example, a barbecue stick or a pencil, which will mark the center of the candle and at the same time hold the wick in place.

The hardest part is over. Now only the most interesting. You will need two pots with a thick bottom. One old saucepan that is no longer suitable for cooking, you put paraffin in it. A pot of paraffin (water bath) is placed in a large pot of water. This way we will melt the paraffin.

During the melting process, candle dyes, decorations and essential oils can be added, which give the scented candles a beautiful smell and appearance. When making candles, spices such as cinnamon or vanilla can also be added. When the paraffin or wax and dye have completely dissolved, mix everything together. When the paraffin is melted, slowly and carefully pour it into the prepared candle mold. Remember that the paraffin decreases slightly in volume as it cools, so you'll probably have to add a little more to compensate for the loss in shape. Now it's time to wait. Depending on the size of the mold, the paraffin can cool down from a few minutes to several hours. https://cricket-cup.com/
