Dietary supplements: what and why

Recommended Posts

Dietary supplements (Biologically Active Additives) are a food product that should not be confused with medicines in any case. The purpose of dietary supplements is to supply the body with missing trace elements that are not received from the daily diet. Undoubtedly, with such "adjustment of the composition" of the body and restoration of balance, some diseases may stop, but this is rather a side effect than a direct task. In general, dietary supplements are complexes (poly-) or individual vitamins or trace elements in a liquid (capsules, drinks, balms) or solid (tablets, creams, concentrates, powders) state. You should choose them with caution - the modern dietary supplements market is full of low-quality, useless, and sometimes dangerous products. You should not trust supermarkets - they have a higher chance of meeting a bad dietary supplement. And in pharmacies, you always need to check whether the product has an expiration date and a stamp - without them, it is undoubtedly a fake. There are three types of dietary supplements:Nutraceuticals are vitamins, polyunsaturated fatty acids, minerals, individual amino acids, etc. They are used to maintain the balance of the body, fill in the missing (undoubtedly, with proper use)Parapharmaceuticals – contain substances from plants or animal tissues, sea products, i.e. all kinds of organic acids, caffeine, biogenic amines... They serve to prevent and maintain the normal functioning of systems and organs. Eubiotics are dietary supplements containing living microorganisms (bifidobacteria and lactobacilli, etc.) The purpose of eubiotics is to normalize the biological activity of the digestive system, help in the treatment of dysbiosis. This classification has no practical application (although it is often indicated on the packaging), so it is not necessary to remember it. It is more important to remember that dietary supplements should be treated with caution. Of course, the lack of any substances is harmful to the body, but an overabundance of them can be even more disastrous. For example, the well-known calcium strengthens bones. But its overabundance has the opposite effect, making the bone tissue extremely fragile. The same problem may arise with the combination of certain substances - some can destroy others (vitamin E and iron) or create unexpected compounds. The risk of an allergic reaction is also high. Therefore, before using dietary supplements, you should consult a doctor. jogo de aposta mines
