lukeh Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 (edited) Trip: Tatoosh - Lane Peak - The Fly Date: 1/10/2016 Trip Report: Quick conditions report w/some pics: Dereck, David, Bartek, Jack, Christian and I checked out The Fly on Lane Peak today. Brought some equip/ropes *just in case*. We used a rope to test the slope before dropping in, but otherwise none of the equip was needed. No tracks to be had since the snowfall earlier in the week. Snow was good through the upper couloir, then hardened up lower down near a bunch of avy debris. Snowboarders (3 of 6) didn't mind the harder snow as much as the boards cut right through. Skiers weren't overly psyched. Some of us hit a south-facing smaller peak above the Narada Falls parking lot on the way back. A couple of controlled wet slides were triggered on the way down, but overall it was a nice softer run. I wouldn't want to be on any steeper, sun exposed slopes today in the afternoon. Freezing level was forecasted to rise from 3k to 7-8k EOD I believe. Boarding/skiing was awful on the last slope back to the parking lot (hard, uneven, etc). Dereck and David heading up The Fly. David earning. Jack at the top of The Fly. Testing the slope on belay before dropping in. Christian drops in second. Bartek, David, Dereck wait up top in the sun. The first snowboarder (Bartek) about to drop in. David dropping in. Dereck amazed. Dereck smiling after clearing the bottom of his board of sticky snow. When he first dropped in, snow build up prevented him from controlling his board and he slid 50ft. Skinning back. Bartek, Christian, and I do one more run on a south facing slope on our way back. A few controlled wet slides are triggered on the steep sun baked slope on the way down. I have a really accurate GPS device. Track can be downloaded here. Good times! lukeallenhumphrey.com Edited January 12, 2016 by lukeh Quote
