pugetgold Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 Trip: Hibox Mountain - Standard Date: 3/29/2015 Trip Report: Splendid trip, with enough snow above 5,000 feet, including on the summit block, to keep it interesting. The climbers trail was snow free until about 5,000 ft - including for the rocky section thankfully -- then, snow was in good shape to head straight up (more or less) to the ridge. Enough snow on the summit ridge to make that scramble a little spicy. We went around the back side and took a steep snow finger up to the ridge. 11 hours car to car. Gear Notes: Ice ax, poles. Took crampons, but didn't use them Approach Notes: Snow made the last 2 miles of the road to the Rachel Lake trailhead impassable to vehicles, and therefore a long, posthole-filled slog to the trailhead. Conditions improved from there, but still about 75% snow coverage until the climber's path departs the main trail. Quote
