MountaineersClub Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 Mountains Don't Care, But We Do Friday, March 19 - 7 p.m. Mountaineers Program Center, 7700 Sand Point Way NE Free event; donations gratefully accepted at the door Released to coincide with the 50 year anniversary of the Mountain Rescue Association, "Mountains Don't Care, But We Do" is a well crafted early history of mountain rescue in the Pacific Northwest. Author Dee Molenaar, himself a key player in the formation of the MRA, paints an in-depth look at the personalities and dynamics that shaped mountain rescue. This event is a fundraiser for Seattle Mountain Rescue, and features a viewing of the documentary based on Dee Molenaar's book. This film brings alive many of the people from the book, and gives an overview of mountain rescue organizations today. It also addresses the big question: what motivates mountain rescuers and why do they face danger to help others in trouble? This is a free event and is open to the general public. Donations to Seattle Mountain Rescue will be accepted at the door. UPDATE: Dee Molenaar, the author of "Mountains Don't Care..." and a mountaineering legend, will be in attendance at this event. He will be available to sign books and talk about the early years of mountain rescue in the Pacific Northwest.
