S1W
From the WCC website: "as of Spring 2009 we are told that the Snohomish PUD plans to maintain at least part of what is called the "South Shore Road" and access to Spada Reservoir. The approach hike to Static Point may remain little further than it has been in recent memory." Further details in the link below: http://www.washingtonclimbers.org/Current/staticupdate.htm I'm not sure that I completely understand what this means. Does this mean that we may soon be able to drive to the old TH? Or does it mean that access will remain as it was last summer and that the road will not be closed even farther back? David Yount
If the South Shore gate is closed, then add 2 miles of road walking to the approach. If the South Shore gate is open then you may park at the spur road, just past the bridge. As of 10.23.09 http://www.snopud.com/PowerSupply/hydro/jhp.ashx?p=1196 [Regarding the ability to drive all the way in to the spur road] The South Shore gate at Olney Pass [spada Resevoir]is currently open Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The road is closed to vehicles just east of the Site 4 (Nighthawk), with hike-in access to site 5 and the Grieder Lake and Boulder lake Trailheads. [The spur road that we hike to reach climbing at Static Peak is well before Site 4] Also, spur road trail work tomorrow Saturday October 24, 2009 [chainsaws] http://www.washingtonclimbers.org/Forums/showthread.php?p=1610&posted=1#post1610
