MOHAI Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 Fall Lecture Series: Mike Gauthier: Mount Rainier Stories: The 2006 Flood, Major Rescues and Adventures on "The Mountain" Thursday, October 18, 7:00- 9:00 p.m. Mike Gauthier directs the Mountaineering and Rescue program for the National Park Service at Mount Rainier. In 1998, the American Red Cross selected Mike as their wilderness rescue hero. He is the author of Mount Rainier: A Climbing Guide, and has summited the mountain over 170 times. In addition, he has successfully led six expeditions to Mount McKinley and the Alaska Range and one to Aconcagua. Gautier has been struck by lightning three times and caught in avalanches, leading Men's Journal to select him as one of the 25 Toughest Men in North America.
