jport Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 I'll be climbing Mt. Cruiser this weekend, via the Needle Pass approach. I'm considering hitting Cruiser, then (time-permitting) climbing The Needle. I was wondering if anyone can give me info. about climbing The Needle. The guidebook has a very brief description that notes a single 130-foot lead. It grades it: 1, fourth-class. Any additional info. would be useful. Thanks! Quote
suge Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 Well, I would definitely not call it 4th class or grade 1. Maybe there is a route somewhere else that I didn't see, but from my vantage point it looks low-mid 5th. There is an awesome, slightly overhanging arete that looks pretty tough. Raps slings (unknown condition) can be spied on top. There is a picture of the Needle in my Cruiser TR. Quote
bremerton_john Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 Wayne (wayne1112) and Dave climbed it August 2004 as part of their Sharpen the Saw Traverse of Sawtooth Ridge. You can find their TR on this forum. Mayeb they'd be willing to share some insight. John Quote
jport Posted July 31, 2007 Author Posted July 31, 2007 Also, I was wondering if you can double-rope rap from the top to the base of the north face. I'm not sure if a 60-meter rope would reach...? Looks like that would be an awesome airy free rap! Quote
