The_North_Face Posted May 16, 2007 Posted May 16, 2007 Join us for an inspirational evening of images and stories from extreme adventurer, Erden Eruc. Erden is in the midst of an extraordinary human-powered circumnavigation of the globe that he calls the Six Summits Project. In addition to rowing, cycling, and hiking, Erden's goal is to climb the highest mountain summit on each of the six continents he crosses in honor of his friend and mentor, the late Goran Kropp, who died tragically while rock climbing with Erden in 2002. After first conceiving his human-powered journey in 1997, his tribute began on February 1st, 2003 as he departed his home in Seattle, Washington for Alaska by bicycle. After reaching Denali National Park, he walked overland to the base of Denali, eventually summiting the highest point in North America on May 29th. Erden then cycled home, arriving on August 24th, a round trip of 5,546 miles, all under human power! In 2004 he cycled 3,980 miles across the US from Seattle to Miami. In 2006 Erden completed an epic 96 day solo crossing of the Atlantic Ocean from the Canary Islands to the Caribbean in a 23' ocean-rowing vessel, again, all under human power! Join us as Erden shares his adventures, including some details of the next leg of his Six Summits Project, a solo rowboat crossing of the Pacific Ocean from San Francisco to Australia, departing June 1st. Erden's ocean-rowing boat will be on hand at the slide show for you to see and ponder!
