Hood Saturday night. Greg Robinson, Portland Mountain Rescue Rescuers managed to get Terry Cone safely off Mt. Hood after Mr. Cone broke his leg at the 9,000 foot level. Rescuers managed to get Terry Cone safely off Mt. Hood after Mr. Cone broke his leg at the 9,000’ level. Cone, 69, told KGW that he was attempting to summit the mountain for the 84th time Saturday. At about the 9,000’ level, he apparently slipped on some ice and broke his leg. Cone was wearing an electronic mountain locating unit that he said he immediately activated. Keith Langenwalter with Portland Mountain Rescue said he crews, along with other mountain rescue crews were alerted and set out to retrieve Cone around 3:00 p.m. Rescuers reached Cone a few hours later. He was reportedly a little hypothermic and had that broken leg, but was otherwise doing well. Rescue crews credited Cone’s decision to carry an MLU for aiding in their quick response.
