Willie will speak about river trips on the Great Bend of the Yangtze, the Grand Canyon of China, as well as the Upper Mekong river, which Moutain Travel Sobek Expeditions is offering in partnership with The Nature Conservancy and their Yunnan Great Rivers Project, a conservation and development plan for northwest Yunnan. The province of Yunnan, in southwestern China, has some of the best whitewater rafting in the world, and offers fascinating cultural encounters with the Naxi people, descendents of Tibetan traders, and other hill tribe minorities. Some of the highest and most sacred mountains in the world, like Namche Barwa and Kawa Karpo, rise high above these rivers. Willie Kern, world-class kayaker, is recognized internationally as the voice of communication and safety on the river. Willie has pioneered many notable descents throughout North and Central America, Europe, and the Himalaya, including first descents down Tibets Yarlung Tsangpo and the Moon Gorge of the Upper Mekong. He loves China and is a passionate advocate for the preservation of its wild rivers and mountain areas. Please RSVP to Lisa Harding at lisa@mtsobek.com or call (800) 282-8747, ext. 6048
