catbirdseat Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 Sounds like the criminal element is at work planting flowers again. Those sneaky bastards! Rare flower 'found' on land slated for development Quote
archenemy Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 Foamgate might have ended there, had the flowers not sprouted again in recent months in the same area. Schellinger said the new plants grew from seeds scattered during the "original criminal act." Fish and Game agreed. If the plants propagate so easily, why are they endangered? I'm not botanist, but it seems like the littles suckers are fairly hardy. Quote
catbirdseat Posted July 18, 2006 Author Posted July 18, 2006 The plants grow well if they are in the right environment. It turns out that the seeds were sown in a vernal pool environment favored by the plant. So are they really going to rip out an endangered plant that is growing happily? Quote
tivoli_mike Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 And you wonder why land values are so high... Quote
catbirdseat Posted July 18, 2006 Author Posted July 18, 2006 Yeah, tell me about it. Everyone and his brother wants to build on a vernal pool. It's nice and flat, once you've drained the damn thing and gotten rid of those pesky endangered species, it makes for cheap construction. Quote
