chrisIW Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 I am scheduled for a climb on Mt. Hood For 4/18-19. I am not from the area, actually I am from Louisiana and I was wondering if anyone had suggestions concerning transportaion to the mountain (I don't drive) and lodging. I don't have big bucks to spend here and could use some suggestions. Now I don't want you all thinking I am some camera wavering tourist. I have done some pretty intense hiking and I am making the cross over to mountaineering and hopefully will be moving up to Portland, Seattle, or may be Denver away from all of these hurricanes and stupid politicians. Thanks for your help! Quote
Couloir Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 I'm not aware of any public transportation to the mountain, so you may consider putting this in the "Climbing Partners" section. Lots of people will be headed up there once the weather clears. You shouldn't have too much trouble getting a ride, or finding a group to tag along with, if that's what your interested in. Quote
Backwoods Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 Check Craigslist for ride-share info. There may be some skiers or other climbers headed up. I am unsure of busses, but it wouldn't surprize me (although the ski season is about over...) Maybe even make a posting of when you need to be there ( ie: hour of which day, etc.) and offer some $; check Mazama lodge for accomidations. Get creative... Quote
Nick Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 The weather is not looking promising for your scheduled climb of Mt. Hood. Even if the weather seems to be OK, be prepared to navigate in a TOTAL whiteout. Stay on a compass course, don't count on wands alone (unless you carry enough to place them every few feet), an altimeter is a must, GPS is a great idea. Quote
