Sandy_Weil Posted June 3, 2002 Posted June 3, 2002 My buddy and I are thinking of climbing the north ridge of baker, weather permitting, this weekend. Has anyone been up there yet? How far up the road do you have to hike to the trail head? How broken up is the glacier? What were the conditions on the route like? Quote
Norman_Clyde Posted June 3, 2002 Posted June 3, 2002 I believe the party of two that was "rescued" mid-May had ascended the North Ridge. They were pinned down by weather after summitting, not by technical problems with the ascent. I forget their names but I think they've posted somewhere on cc.com about it. Quote
Climzalot Posted June 3, 2002 Posted June 3, 2002 Climbed it on Saturday. Feel free to email for details. cgentzel@aai.cc Quote
nolanr Posted June 4, 2002 Posted June 4, 2002 My buddies were the party stuck on top and they did summit via N. Ridge. They drove w/in 2 or 3 miles of the TH I think. The snow was sloppy lower on the route, higher up it was wind blasted and solid. Based on their experience, definitely wait for good weather on this one. Quote
nolanr Posted June 4, 2002 Posted June 4, 2002 Climazalot, did you find any trace of a snow cave near the summit? Might have been a little bit of booty left in there. Quote
Climzalot Posted June 4, 2002 Posted June 4, 2002 No I must have missed the snow cave. I wish I would have seen it and I could have gotten your buddies back their stuff. Quote
