John Kerry was too busy campaigning to cast the single additional vote necessary for the Senate to approve the extension of expiring unemployment benefits. Because Kerry didn't show up an vote "yes," the measure failed by one vote. Extension of unemployment benefits is seen by Democrats as a cornerstone of progressive federal government response to recession. In a New York Times column just two months ago, Paul Krugman blasted Bush for having "rejected" such a measure. In fact, Bush endorsed it. It's Krugman's boy Kerry who has "rejected" it

Kerry either knew and didn't care about the vote or his friend sin WA like him so much they left him out of the loop.
