Rick Wall (co-pilot) had is radio, but with 2 broken arms he wasn't able to activate the signal until the hikers miraculously arrived on the seen. Once the radio was on it sounds like they used a P-3 flying over the top to locate the specific location of the signal for the continued rescue.

This weekend there was actually a SAR reunion at NAS Whidbey and I had the opportunity to sit down with Rick Wall who was the co-pilot. He walked me through all the details of the crash. Pretty amazing. Looking forward to getting out there.

The last several years I have been wanting to hike to the crash site but I have needed to directions on the best way to get there.
