  1. Hi, there. We are planning our trip to Ruth Gorge from Apr 27 to May 5. Currently two of us are fully committed on these dates and one person is still deciding to join. Please feel free to contact me if you are interested in climbing with us. We are thinking about J-Couloir on Barrill, West Face on Dickey, The Escalator Johnson, Freezy Nuts on Werewolf Tower, etc. Also the West Ridge of Mooses Tooth. -MK
  2. A couple of us are planning the 10 to 12 day climbing trip in Ruth Gorge, AK, starting from Anchorage on April 26th. This will be our second visit to the Gorge after getting there a week or so too late to climb in decent enough condition. We are mostly looking at climbs ranging from UIAA Grade II - IV on snow & ice. Some of the objectives we are considering includes: -Mt. Dickey (West Face, Grade II) -Mt. Barrill (Japanese Couloir, Grade III) -Werewolf Tower (Freezy Nuts Couloir) -Mt. Wake (Wake Up) -Mt. Johnson (The Escalator) -Moose's Tooth (West Ridge, Grade IV-V) -Explorer's Peak (West Face) -Mt. Dan Beard (Southwest Route, Grade V) We have the Mountain House booked from May 1 to 5th, planning to relocate our basecamp from R/G Airstrip later on the trip. Please feel free to contact me directly or post your reply here if you are interested. Hoping to split some travel expenses among several people. Car rental & gas, Satellite phone rental, Lodging in town before/after landing and so on. Air taxi is around $500 R/T each.
  3. As of Aug 5th, 2329 is still blocked by snow in between trail #112 & #113. To reach Killen Creek TH (#113) you have to drive 19 miles on 23 from Randle and take 21 and then follow signs for Horseshoe Lake.
  4. Just came back from Adams Glacier climb I did this passed weekend. The route required some snaking around and the exit to the right side of the glacier to reach summit plateau. Was that your experience as well? Descending the North Ridge was more difficult than I thought. Managing all kinds of loose scree on mid to lower part of the ridge was absolute nightmare. I can see why climbing North Ridge is not so popular... I took road 21 and then followed the sign after driving 19 miles on 23 from Randle. Mosquitoes were vicious at the trailhead.
  5. Thanks so much for that information. I will make sure to ask about this at the ranger station when I get into the town and try to track the mileage from there to the trailhead. Did you guys descend on North Ridge route and then pick up the camp?
  6. Hi. Nice trip report with great pictures! I'm finally tackling Adams Glacier this weekend and would appreciate 411 on road condition to the trailhead. What made you guys decide to take Divide Creek instead of Killen Creek TH? Thanks!
  7. Does anybody know how far Road 23 goes from Randal to the north side trailheads of Mt. Adams right now? Any trip reports on North Ridge or Adams Glacier climbs? I'm very curious and might make the last minute trip up there this weekend.
  8. DPS, you are all right about that. Road 23 is still closed as of today and they won't expect it to open until July-1. I guess I have to reschedule my Adams trip.
  9. Hi, Fred. Are you still climbing Shasta next week? The weather is looking pretty good for both 15th to 16th and thinking about climbing Casaval solo myself. (I might go for 14th and 15th, but might able to adjust to your plan) Are you going to be on skis or mtn boots? I'm driving up from San Francisco. Masaru
  10. Planning to climb Adams via Adams Glacier route. (Grade III, 45° snow/ice) Trip date can be flexible, but I prefer to do this before busy 4th of July weekend. I will be flying from San Francisco to Portland and renting a car. Anyone interested? Or any group have planned this climb already on different date? Please drop me a message here.
