  1. I second MtnBoy. I did a couple routes in Zion this summer. We used a retired 60m climbing rope (dynamic) to rap on with a 6mm Imlay static pull cord (very nice btw) that we bought down there. Worked well, and long enough for most routes there. The rope most definitely got trashed like mentioned above and I would not lead climb on it even after one wet canyon route. A beefy line (10-11mm) will hold up better to the abuse of canyoneering routes and is more controllabled than a thin line when doing a single line 120ft free hanging rap.

Check out renting gear too if unsure. I rented a canyoneering specific pack for cheap and it was way better than trashing a lightweight alpine pack.

Have fun gettin back into it!

  2. Hell yea, nicely done! That was Sean and I who met ya on the summit.

We did Devils Kitchen headwall (right variation). Just to clarify conditions on DKH, we used 4 screws and three pickets. Conditions were variable from solid snow to thin snice. A short WI2/3 step (15-20ft) in the second pitch protected well with screws, everything else was pretty sketch until the slope mellowed out. Lots of fun! Go get some!

  3. Made it out to Bluewood today. Pretty thin, pretty wet, pretty fun...glad to have top rope bolts. Got a few laps in on the right side. The rest is still on its way in. Pics should say more than I can...if i can figure out how to insert them..bear with the newbie here...

  4. Hey all, just read this post and joined the forum! I'm pretty new to ice climbing as well. Just decided to head out to the Bozeman Ice Opener. Have all the gear, looking for climbing partners, livin in the TriCities. Let me know if anyone's interested in gettin after some ice, I'd love to learn from some experienced climbers.

Thinking about checking out conditions at Bluewood for some TR laps on Sunday if anyones interested...

Thanks, didn't mean to hijack the thread!
