Forgot to add that ski poles/hiking poles were helpful but not required.

Hiked on July 22, 2011. No problem in hiking boots and no extra gear. But if your going to have some fun on the way down an ice axe was nice. If your just going to walk down an ice axe was not needed. Snow from the trail start to end but for the steeps rocks/dirt slopes were available. Had good conditions with sun on the 22nd.
