  1. Hi all, I lost my mad rock gray lace up rock shoes while at Vantage on the sunny side of the Feathers this past Saturday Oct 20. They're about 7 years old and molded to my feet. If someone happened to pick them up, I'll buy you a drink. Thanks
  2. I was around the corner when someone shouted out for a doctor. They seemed rather calm about it so we didn't realize immediately that someone had taken a serious fall. When I spoke with a medic involved, he mentioned that the climber's vision kept on going to the right. They initially were thinking of putting the climber on a litter and walking him down a scree slope to the ambulance at the end of Echo valley but decided that getting him to the chopper would be a better tactic. The chopper landed on the level ground just below the gulley access to the Sunshine wall and the climber was loaded onto the chopper while in the litter. I looked up Crackmaster Lambada that someone here said he was on. It's a 5.10b trad climb. Trad climbs are essentially alpine climbs with the same severity to a slightly lesser degree (meaning medical help is typically close by) if sh*t happens. Most people at Vantage were climbing with helmets but there were a few that climbed without brain buckets. Broken legs are easier to mend than a cracked skull. I don't know the climber but I bet he'll make sure his pieces are bomber once he's back on the rock. I hope he's on the way to a speedy and full recovery.
  3. Hi all, Seeing the latest photos on the Washington ice conditions thread made me start to salivate. I've climbed ice in upstate NY, South Africa (yes, there is climbable ice there), and the Columbia river gorge but am lacking ice climbing partners up here. I have the gear minus ice ropes or ice screws and have the rope management skills for double ropes. And I'm keen to get out there! Give me a shout at bridgester5 AT gmail, thanks ice ice ice
  4. I'm always impressed by how helpful people are on this board. Thanks! I'm a civil engineer in the coastal specialization and have a potential opportunity to get involved with the strengthening of the sea defenses in New Orleans. I searched in Seattle but apparently the economy is on life support (I'm in South Africa at the moment). Long drives may it be!
  5. Hi all I know this is a Cascades board but maybe you can help me out. Despite my best efforts to get to the Northwest, I can only seem to find potential work in New Orleans. Dire circumstances for someone who is a hiker, rock climber, and budding ice climber. What sort of climbing, if any, is in the Louisiana area or obtainable on the weekend? Thanks
  6. Thanks everyone for the input! I'll give Seattle a shot next year.
  7. Well, my first love is sport climbing so ice and trad are recent acquisitions. It sounds like I won't be short of climbs in the Seattle area...just don't know if I can handle the rain! If you could live anywhere in the US (depending on climbing), where would you?
  8. Hi all How accessible is the sport or trad climbing around Seattle? Can it be an afternoon outing or a weekend? And the ice routes? Ok, I don't expect these to be 30 mins or so away from the city. Thanks!
