[Oregon Ice update]

I went out to the Gorge today 1/2/2011 and took some pics of Mist and CrownJewel. I climbed on mist a bit on the left and far right side. there were a few times where big stuff (basket ball size) fell off of the top down onto the climb. I talked to some climbers that were just leaving as I got there. (awesome people) and they said they got at least some 18 CM ice screws in fine with out hitting rock/moss. I was using my short screws when I soloed the left side. kind of cauliflowery but ok. not sure how well the skrews would have held but put some wieght on them and they stayed in for me.

 

hope to be back out on the 3rd in the AM.

Has anyone been out on I-84 or 14 and seen anything starting to come in on either Oregon or Washington sides? 11/23/10. Thanks.

[Mathematically ideal bolt/pro placement?]

I am wondering if anyone knows of some literature about the ideal spacing between bolts/pro. I am thinking that there must be someone who has actually figured out what the ideal spacing is, and I just want to know. I know there are a lot of variables in climbing but some things can be figured out... looking for some help here. (I have read "Rope System Analysis" by Stephen W. Attaway, and though it is very insightful, it doesn't deal with the spacing...)

[[TR] columbia river gorge - any 12/14/2008]

Climbed a bit on Crown Jewel 12/19/08 from 1400 to 1730ish. Not sure what good ice is but I can say this: There was less ice than on Tuesday depth any where from 1" to 7" on the lower stuff. did not climb higher than 40' water was running on the top climbers right and under the ice on climbers right. we heard from some other guys that a car got towed from the no parking spot on I-84. we parked in the roster rock lot. ($3) anyone know how to put pics up on this? have some of the ice

[[TR] columbia river gorge - any 12/14/2008]

Got some pics of some guys climbing on what I think is Mist falls just East of Crown Point on 12/16/08 in the afternoon from the RR Tracks. Anyone know who it was? I was going to give the 2 guys some pics and videos I took of them. Anyone been out today to see how the ice is with this warming going on?
