  1. That mountain with the big squarish face that you are asking about is Perdition Peak, found between the Backbone Peaks and the McAllister Glacier/Eldo area. The glacier to the lower right is the Backbone Glacier, the peaks to the right are some of the backbone summits, probably the Cervical and Thoracic Peaks.

I was just in that area in August, passing closely behind the other side of that mountain while traversing the upper Marble Creek basin on the Isolation travserse. What a great place.

  2. During an exhausted 1 am loading of the car I apparently dropped my BD ice axe with attached leash in the small parking area for Boston Basin along the Cascade River road on July 10. Email me ccondie@seanet.com, and I'll arrange to get it back to me at my expense.

    Thanks!

  3. Few weeks ago took a nasty tumble over a cliff above the end of the Cascade River road, in extracting myself had to leave a ski laying on the slope, figured I'd come back after healing and find it. Went back yesterday and its gone. It was laying on the slope about 1000 feet above the end of the Cascade River road trailhead, right along the natural line that backcountry skiers would take this time of year while heading for Cascade Pass - up valley eastbound, turn slightly right, than back left thru cliff bands. It's a 10th Mountain XCD with skin attached.

I have found and carried out and returned equipment to others, I'm hoping karma will pay me back now. The durn ski was almost new.

  4. Avoid the crowds – Rainer on a Tues/Weds

Looking to do either Emmons or DC (depends on experience level of respondents) on a Tues/Weds overnighter on either July 15 & 16 or July 22 & 23. (can you tell I have a restrictive work schedule?).

I can supply the rope and some group equipment. I would rate myself as intermediate+, and I climb at a moderate pace (ain’t the young’un I unsta be).

  5. When I read this, I knew/know the EXACT spot you stopped short of the summit, cuz I stopped in the EXACT same spot when I went thru there last winter in an epic ski from Chatter Creek up over Snowgrass and Big Chiwaukum, then north over McCue Ridge and out past the Scottish Lakes skicamp village. I can attest, that last notch before the summit is life threatening when plastered with snow & ice - your photos seem like they were taken on my trip! In summer, probably a class 3 or 4 scramble. Anyways, just wanted to commiserate.
