I lost a Black diamond tele ski crampon descending Mt Baker Sunday afternoon. We were on the Heliotrope side. It is somewhere on the ski out via Grouse Creek, probably at the spot where the avy path is melted out and you have to bushwack around the creek bend (4000 ft?). If found, I would be grateful! Will compensate with a 12 pack of choice. Jon j_dufay(at)yahoo(dot)com

Trip: mt baker - coleman Date: 4/28/2007 Trip Report: made another try up baker via heliotrope/coleman. still cannot drive to trail, about 30-40 minute hike. made camp about 6500 and left for the summit with a big group (11 climbers)around 2:30am, reached 8500 feet around 5:00 am and in came a huge ass whiteout. decided to dig in and try to wait it out. after about an hour, people started to get cold and white out got worse. decended back down in heavy whiteout. lots of new snow. hours of postholing to just below the knee. our 11 person boot pack was totally filled in after only 2 hours. wait another few weeks before trying this one if you really want to summit. too bad, weather was beautiful in b-ham on sunday from what i heard. oh well, just more proof that the mountains make thier own weather. oh yeah, the snow on the way down (from 6000 feet all the way to the creek crossing) absolutely sucked, total sunbacked, slick, fall on your ass, break your snowshoes, cascade crap. snow bridges over the creek crossings are probably done for the season. have fun out there kids...the north fork has thier red eye on tap, so that was good

we did it in a chevy malibou and a ford focus, there are a few larger potholes in it though, bob and weave my friend...

Trip: mt baker - coleman glacier Date: 4/14/2007 Trip Report: just some quick beta on the latest @ mt baker... lead a trip of 11 climbers from wwu on mt baker this weekend via heliotrope/coleman glacier. you can drive almost all the way to the trail head (we got to mile 6.5, the trail is @ 8.0), snow shoes or skis were needed all the way to high camp (would have been nice above too, and the skiing looked great from about 10000 feet to 5000 feet). route is starting to shape up. seems like that whole mountain is a wind tunnel. seems like almost every slope was totally wind loaded (yikes). anyways, we made it to about 10300 and fractured a slab on the roman wall, beat feet and got the hell out of dodge. seems like most crevases are still sleeping deep under the snow. now the sunburn on my face is starting to drip on the keyboard so i had better get going... j Gear Notes: standard mountaineering get up Approach Notes: bring floatation and expect a 1.5 mile road walk to get to the trailhead.

[TR] Closet Secrets and a Fountain hike - 2/10/2007
jonnyd replied to Don_Serl's topic in Ice Climbing Forum
Hey Don, I was with the Bellingham group that sat next to you @ the reynolds on sat. Rambles Left and Rambles Center were both in pretty nice shape on saturday, fat ice and not too much drip. Marble canyon was good on sunday, although i think that the dihedral route on the far left may be done for the season, deeping wall was nice, as well as a route just to the left (if you didn't mind being in the shower for 10 meters) and the first 2 pitches of icy bc were looking good... get it while there are still gettings to be had!
