Aren't there large holes they of fallen into pretty easily? With the wind being so high maybe they slid a few thousand feet down the mountain? I've never been up this mountain so...
I was also wondering if they would have been carrying any large quantity of fuel. Did the dead climber have a stove or any fuel?

To me it seems like driving thru the most horrible part of town and realizing u forgot to put any gas in the car?

I guess I'm one of the neophytes watching in. Ham radio is a pretty useful tool. I think the other hams were just saying that they should of had something, ham radio, MLU, FRS radio, whatever. A cellphone doesn't cut it.

At what point do they allow climbers back on Mount Hood? If the climbers are not found this winter, how long till the snow melts or conditions permit access to the gullies where they supposedly fell? Does this incident make Mt. Hood a more attractive destination this summer?
I'm just a lurker. I drive an 18 wheeler by Mt. Hood every week and have wondered what it would be like to climb it.
