  1. Since I am from Massachusetts and had never climbed in the Cascades before, I climbed with RMI when I climbed Ranier a few years ago. We had signed up for the Camp Muir Seminar and had a great time including getting to the summit.

With this training and experience we went back to the cascades and climbed Hood and Adams this past summer independently.

  2. We're now back from our trip to the Cascades. The Mazama Glacier route on Adams was in good shape. The approach to Sunrise camp from Bird Creek Meadows was fairly easy. We enjoyed good weather. There were a few small cravasses on the Mazama but we were able to easily negotate around them along the right side of the glacier to where the grade starts to ease. We then traversed left across the glacier towards the rock bands leading towards the south route. One large cravasse just before getting to the rocks but again easily avoided. One rope team in our group went up the Mazama Headwall to the south climb and did not have any major issues (only the one cravasse one member stepped into but was easily extracted). Had great views from the summit.
