  3. The top and bottom shots were of Nightfall (by Stu Schurtz) on the Devil Track river, and the middle two are of Suzy on the Manitou river, both nearish to Grand Marais. Great fun, and got my first intensive mixed fix.
  4. "needlessly insult any of the various parties involved" I would say from this post, burp's comments don't fit the thread. He deserves the boot.
  5. With this punk calling everyone he disagrees with F'ers, can't someone yank the jerkoff's posts?
  6. Some folks spend way to much time trying to compare one group/person to another group/person. That dialog leads nowhere. Do what you like to do, and don't give a damn what others think of your passion. These guys lived how they wanted. More power to them and their kind.
  7. Christy, I think most of the sociable climbers have left this post, not that I'm a social butterfly either.
  8. I think its nappy time...or maybe a couple of beers.
  9. Nice one,high!
  10. Thanks for the comments Matt. I know CC tends to be Cascade-centric, but just because someone is from the flatlands, doesn't mean they're a yokel. I don't think anyone would consider Scott Backes uninformed (born in Iowa, grew up and lives in St. Paul). Mark-Minnesota yokel
  11. Summer too. Liquid water kills!
  12. Does anyone have timeline on the weather conditions for the Friday the men were on the face? My Seattle brother (climber) found a video of Hood shot from an aircraft that reports to be from that day. He says it shows what appear to be good conditions with sunny skies.
  13. Texan, I agree with your speculation on what might have happened. However, posting to this site is not a sign of poor preparation. On the contrary, this site is one of the best to get climbing beta, especially for the Northwest.
  14. Finger, Sorry for being so indelicate in my wording. Everyone's intitled to their personal criteria for a safe climb. I just meant to indicate that if you are prepared and vigilant, and the conditions are right, you can have a safe, fun winter climb.
  15. Finger, You're talking out of your ass. A lot of people climb Hood and many other mountains in the winter. Stick to subjects you know something about.
  16. Update MSNBC interviewed Crag Rats leader and Mike Gauthier, head climbing ranger at Mt Rainier. "Y" is ice/snow anchor. Gauthier feels no one would ever leave rope or pad/bag behind in survival situation. He is not optimistic. Sorry for the negative report. Hope the guys come home soon.
  17. I'm no expert, but from reading tons of accident reports (read annual 'Accidents in North American Mountaineering' for useful info as starters), people seldom end up in a covenient local for extraction. Usually they have to be moved by SAR's to extraction location.
  18. Try this for Cascades webcams: http://www.skimountaineer.com/CascadeSki/CascadeWebCams.php
  19. Fox??!!! These are the same guys that reported a C-130 was dropping SAR personnel on the summit. A new twist on heli-skiing?
