  1. I can say that we try very hard to encourage an open and friendly vibe. Personally, I have always disliked gym princes and elitest cliques. I believe everyone has something great to contribute to our "scene" here. Trying to be all things to all people is challenging, and some people will have complaints about us, but I think the vast majority of the people that climb here will say that we have a very unpretentious and laidback clientele and staff, and a great vibe. We are a community here. And we are always happy to welcome new people into our community. Thanks for your kind words Matt and Jeff.

  2. Hello all, just wanted to let you know about our Holiday Pumpathon competition. Its going to be a race to see how many boulder problems you can get up in 4 hours. Since we have over 150 problems under v3, it will not at all be about difficulty. The cost is $20 for members and $25 for non members. All the proceeds are going to Camp Ukandu- a camp for children with cancer. You also get a free tshirt if you are one of the first 50 to sign up, which you can do at the gym.

We have over 20 sponsors for the event, so there will be tons of great gear to give away, and of course we will be tapping a keg afterward, rockin out to the DJ, and hitting the slacklines.

Comeo on down, its for a great cause, and we're going to do everything we can to make it a fantastic event. Check www.thecircuitgym.com for more details. Thanks!

  3. Sorry I haven't posted in a while, just wanted to let you all know that we will be opening in about one week. I hope.... These carpet guys aren't fast. Anyhow, $42/mo. $12/day. Sorry for keeping the info from you, but I was also keeping it from the competition. He has reacted to everything else he has found out about us (kid's team, higher walls, weights and cardio, etc.) that I wanted to keep some ammo in the barrel. Thanks for your patience, and I hope you all feel it was worth the wait for this gym, that it is a very good value, and that we provide a great positive environment. Hope to see you soon.

  4. We have definitely been anxious to let people know our rates, but this is a very competative environment we are opening up in, despite the small amount of competition. Because of this reason we have not let our rates out. We will be posting this information very soon, and I really thank everyone for their patience.

  5. Another update-

Foam and carpet is being replaced next week, I imagine we might be open the following weekend or so!

On another front, Gary Rall has been advertising to quite a few people of his interest in meddling with our buildout/permitting process (calling the fire marshall, etc.). Its rather dissapointing that he chooses to display this very immature, unprofessional, and unproductive attitude. Luckily, we are doing everything by the book and there is nothing he is capable of doing that will stop or delay our opening. Maybe his time would be better spent improving his own business rather than trying in vain to take us down......

  6. To dispell any false rumors-

we didn't get a permit for the climbing walls until after they were built, we were under the impression that the walls did not need to be permitted. I have built climbing walls all over the place and this was the very first permit I had to get for wall construction. Portland is very unique in this regard. Everything else was done in the right manner (permits, etc.), but one of the drywallers knocked off a sprinkler head and caused a bit of a flood, and we will be ready to open once the restoration crew replaces the flooring.

Look, there is a great crew of people busting themselves to bring something good to the scene. But big projects always seem to have a few hitches. I am sorry we have taken so long, I hope when we are open it will seem like it was worth it to alot of you. In the mean time, stop by for a look, we take time for everyone that walks through the door.

Lastly, we are working on a new website model now- but really, would you rather have me focus on a really flashy web site or getting the gym done? Thanks for your patience everyone!

  7. I think that it is safe to say at this point that everyone (excluding Gary Rall) will be very happy with our rate structure. This gym is for all of you, not the hardcores only, not the newbies only, not just the kids- anyone that likes climbing, likes what it does for you, and likes the social interaction of the sport. Come see for yourself. $5 day passes the first month we're open.

  8. We are cruising along, the web site will be updated with pics soon, I think. We have a million things going on so the web has fallen a bit behind schedule. Until it gets updated, there are a number of people out there who have seen the gym- ask them about it, they will tell you.

  9. We will not get rid of the hard problems but we can arrange an inflatable kiddie pool to splash around in if its that important. Trust me, I have tried for the free beer and cheerleaders. How 'bout some dope terrain, maybe some fairness, maybe some generosity, maybe some giving back to the climbing community...

  10. the only reason Gary is doing anything to mend his relationship with any of his customers is not because he all of the sudden cares what you think, or wants to improve your experience. Competition is on its way. It will be here in a few months, and his movements are defensive. He knows we're coming.
