  1. Wayno - I am definately on for this. I can drive up after work on Friday and climb Saturday, Sunday, and maybe a couple of routes Monday morning before I have to head back home. I have plenty of gear, and could even bring an extra rope (or 2) if needed. I lead 8/9 (maybe 10a on a good day) and would be perfectly happy putting up some ropes or belaying someone else on something a little harder. Excellent ploy offering to cook for us! I'm definately interested in that. Send me a shopping list! I'M SERIOUS! With a little training and a decent knife I could even help prep for you. I'm SO PSYCHED! The weather is going to be BEAUTIFUL, the climbing is TERRIFIC, and ... the fruit is HEAVENLY (I understand the Nectarines are ripe right now). So, don't miss out folks. See you all there - Steve
  2. Sounds like there's some actual interest in a meet-up in Leavenworth. Its 300 miles for me (one way), but if there's going to be somebody to climb with, I'll be there! I can do Saturday and Sunday, and maybe a couple of routes Monday morning before I have to head back. Wayno, sounds like maybe you're thinking about Sunday and Monday? Anybody else able to fill in the gaps? How about it, can we get a quorum together? Hope to see you all there - Steve [Wayno: check PM for contact info]
  3. Hi all. Since this seems to be, in part, the "over 40" partners thread, I figured I might as well throw my hat, er, helmet in the ring. I've been climbing on and off since '79 (mostly on lately) and currently lead 9ish trad/sport. I know all about hip belays, carabiner brakes, and hexes (as well as other things you wouldn't recognize), but nowadays my rack is full of all the shiny new things you'd expect. Only trouble is, I'm down here in Bend, but if you're thinking about heading down to Smith or Beacon, give me a holler. - Steve BTW, anybody interested in meeting up in Leavenworth over Labor Day weekend?
  4. Anyone for moderate trad/sport? PM me. - Steve
  5. Looking to get out Sunday for some moderate trad/sport at Smith. PM me.
  6. Hi. Welcome to Oregon. I'm over here in Bend and climb at Smith. I'd like to hook up with a couple more partners so I can get out more often. I climb 8/9 trad/sport, have rope/rack/car, available weekends. Any compatibility here? Nick? Anyone? PM me. - Steve
  7. Anyone else have this week off and would like to get out to Smith Thursday and/or Friday? - PM me - Steve
  8. Smith local needs partner for Sunday - 10/9. Lead trad 8/9, Sport 9/(10a?), follow 10a/b. email if interested.
  9. How about a Bend climber for Smith on Saturday? I lead sport/9, trad/8, and would be glad to follow sport/10a, trad/9. Email if interested (couldn't get through at the listed number).
  10. See my new post: "Smith Rock Local..."
  11. Thinking about going to Smith to climb, but your partner can't make the trip? I live in Bend, but don't currently have a steady climbing partner, so would be interested in getting together with out-of-town climbers. Maybe we can salvage each other's weekend. I'm not necessarily available every weekend (or both days), so this will probably work best if you have 1-2 days notice to sort things out. I could also be available weekday afternoons (~ 3:30-7:30) if that helps. I lead 8 & 9, and could probably follow most 10a with a little thrashing and grunting. I prefer Trad, but am not opposed to clipping bolts. Have rack, rope, etc. (and a modicum of local knowledge). And just so you know, I am NOT able to provide anyone with a place to stay, so you're still on your own for that. Let's be climbing, instead of wishing we were!
