[Cilao Packs]

Does anyone here have experience with these packs. The are made near Chamonix.

[Brooks Range Propel tent?]

I had the Rocket tent which (as has been noted) is the Propel tent made with a Cuben laminated fabric. There were some delamination problems with that fabric so I wrote to Brooks Range and they agreed to exchange it for an Invasion tent. Kudos to them for excellent customer service.

 

I haven't had a chance to use the Invasion yet but I have set it up. I think the design resolves some of the issues noted above (mesh door and dedicated tent poles) and it is super quick to set up. It weighs in at a little less than 3.5 pounds and is very spacious for 2 palatial for 1. It has a number of vents placed high and low but I can't comment on condensation issues (or lack thereof) yet.

[sunscreen that won't sting]

Here's what I do. I don't put sunscreen on my forehead. Wear a brimmed hat or a helmet with a buff underneath.

Try this. Patagonia Velocity cap, Buff and a merino wool toque combined with a light weight (eg RAB Latok Alpine) rain shell with a hood. Can't think of a situation this combination doesn't cover.

Take a look at the SMC CR pulley. Hard to improve on from my perspective.

I second the Grivel Air Tech Racing. I had used a BD Raven Pro for 3 seasons and prefer the Grivel because the Adze is larger. When you have to excavate a T slot, it takes far too many wacks with the BD.

Try Integral Designs Thru-Hiker jacket and MEC Ferrata Simplex Pants. Outstanding. If it may really pour add the cheapest lightest W/B pants you can find.

[Lightweight summer bag recommendations]

Consider the Nunatak Sub-Alpinist. 35 deg and 14 to 18 oz depending on shell fabric. Fits very nicely with an Integral Designs eVENT Bugaboo bivy because of the chest zipper.

[Expedition Stove]

Try the Brunton Nova. Metal pump, self-purging fuel line, relatively compact and quieter.

[ID eVent Tents no Longer Available]

eVENT tents are no longer available because GE bought the company that produces eVENT. Following the acquisition, GE changed the licensing terms for the fabric, prohibiting its use for tents because of liability concerns. Apparantly the fabric does not meet certain fire retardency standards (or at least hasn't received the required certification).
