KNOW BEFORE YOU GO: WILDERNESS RESCUE RESOURCES AND WHAT TO EXPECT
What happens when you need a rescue in the wilderness? Who shows up? What do they do? How do they manage a situation? Do you have to pay for a rescue? Will a helicopter come? Who is in charge? How will they find me?
Wilderness rescue, search and rescue and mountain rescue are complicated topics. This is because they don't fit easily into one box. It's different everywhere you go. In this seminar, we will discuss how rescue operations work locally, how they work in other jurisdictions, and how they work internationally. In addition to that, we'll talk about tne complicated politics of search and rescue operations in a wilderness setting.
KNOW BEFORE YOU GO: AVALANCHE AWARENESS
This program is designed to introduce winter backcountry enthusiasts to avalanche terrain assessment, winter snowpack analysis and rescue technique. It also provides you a venue to talk frankly with our expert guides on how to create a reasonable margin of safety when climbing, skiing, or snowboarding on avalanche prone slopes

A JOURNEY THROUGH BOLD NEW VOICES AND GROUNDBREAKING ADVENTURE!
The Women’s Adventure Film Tour will present a thrilling selection of films that span extreme sports, personal journeys, and boundary-pushing storytelling from across the globe.
This year’s program highlights the resilience and creativity of individuals navigating the challenges of both the outer world and their own inner landscapes. We are thrilled to present a program that brings together incredible stories of courage, adventure, and self-discovery. These films represent the spirit of perseverance and the power of women in the outdoors to inspire, entertain, and spark important conversations.
FEATURED FILMS:
This year’s lineup includes a diverse range of films that explore the physical, emotional, and personal journeys of athletes and adventurers. Sliding takes audiences into the high-speed world of skeleton sledding, capturing the intense precision and adrenaline of the sport. Cycling the World follows one woman’s multi-year journey across five continents, 28 countries, and 29,000 kilometers, offering a powerful reflection on both the outer adventure and inner transformation. It Will Be Different For You is a portrait of Olympian Lea Davison, who reflects on her lifelong relationship with mountain biking and the personal trials and triumphs that have shaped her path. In Above Sinai , Egyptian kiteboarder Sarah Sadek defies cultural expectations and empowers her community, challenging norms while embracing her love of the sport. Finally, Drawn In tells the story of Jessa Gilbert, a backcountry guide and visual artist, whose creative process intertwines the exploration of glaciated terrain with the art of painting, revealing the shared spirit of adventure and creativity in both pursuits.
DIVERSITY AND INNOVATION IN FILMMAKING
WAFT is committed to celebrating diverse voices and innovative storytelling. This year’s selections showcase not only groundbreaking sports films but also powerful narratives that highlight women in adventure, athletes challenging societal expectations, and the transformative power of travel and exploration.

CLIMBING FILM TOUR is back for its 5th season with an awesome selection of short films celebrating the global climbing community.
Climbing Film Tour is a unique platform for climbers and filmmakers around the world to share their stories with the community. Each year, films are submitted and selected by our Vertical Life climbing team to go on tour with screenings in hundreds of gyms, and cinemas. Join us for a journey around the world.
This season, we’ll follow Ian Elliott, a 72-year-old Australian rock climber defying age stereotypes as he ascends a grade 28/7c route just before his 70th birthday. Kai Lightner, a 12-time national climbing champion, against the backdrop of Jamaica and their emerging climbing community. Meet up with Freya, Leo Houlding’s daughter, who uses climbing as a practice to lean into discomfort and fear to help navigate her neurodiversity and harness its strengths. You’ll be on the edge of your seat in Cedar Wright’s film “Dropping Molly”, following Molly Mitchell’s Roller Coaster Journey to climb “Crank-It”, one of Colorado’s most dangerous routes. We’ll take you north to the ephemeral Scottish land of mixed climbing with Fay and Line and then meet up with Québécois/ Australian Jacques Beaudoin climber and the effort behind a hard trad first ascent up a thin crack in The Gardens of Stone Conservation Area of Newnes Plateau, NSW, Australia. And then, well, a film about Jackson Marvell.
Join us for a journey around the world.

Bisotun
The 4th Festival of Big wall Climbing Iran – Kermanshah
20th to 27th October 2018
Bisotunn is a vast and complex 1,200m high limestone wall in western Iran's Zagros Range. It is variously reported as up to eight kilometers in width. Currently there are approximately 100 routes, leaving plenty of space for additions. The rock is outstanding - generally sound, well featured and highly abrasive, the latter almost uncomfortably so.
The first International Festival at Bisotun took place in 2010 and was well attended and foreign participants were French (there is a long tradition of climbing here by the Groupe de Haute Montagne), but Australia, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Slovenia, Sweden and Switzerland were represented.
Foreign participants, often in the company of local climbers, enjoyed excellent climbing in relaxed company. Most Iranian climbers are middle class and well-educated.In the 2010 festival Nineteen year old Sebastien Bouin from France and 25 year old Hassan Javadian (a former Iranian climbing champion) put up a five-pitch bolted line with a crux of 5.14b.
Anthony Hall and Julie Heller, an Australian couple on their honeymoon, climbed a new 250m route with Iranians Ehsan Mirtaghi and Shokouh Pariai.Honeymoon was rated 5.11a/b.
This year the I.R.Iran Mountaineering & Sport Climbing Federation intended to hold the 4th Festival of Big Wall Climbing in “BISTOUN” in cooperating with UIAA, FFCAM, GHM and Atour Adventure Group in Kermanshah.
