  1. Anyone in Bend... Mark Thursday January 21st on your calendar. Don Bowie, will be presenting a multimedia show on his successful climbing expedition to K2. On July 4th, 2007, he became the 4th Canadian to summit K2, and did so without the use of supplemental oxygen. He has fantastic images, video clips, and stories of the dramatic ascent and tragic descent on what some call, "The Savage Mountain." Bend Show: Thursday January 21, 2010 McMenamins Theatre (The Old St. Francis Pub) 700 N.W. Bond Street Tickets $15 at the door from 6:00 p.m. Pub open for food and beverages Doors: 8:15 p.m. Show: 8:30 p.m. More info: www.donbowie.com He did a sold out show in Vancouver, BC and it got rave reviews from everyone in the climbing and adventure communities here.
  2. Yes... burly endeavor indeed! He's got great stories! For example... at one point, his two partners were pushing forward on their originally intended route, and they each fell into different crevasses with the rope holding both of them up, but leaving no one on top to set up an anchor. Good times!!!! FYI, if you do get to go, in order to secure the venue, Don had to commit to a minimum food and beverage amount, so please, bring all your friends and order lots of food and beer inside the theater ;-). Doors open at 6:00 so you'll get a better seat too. Any help spreading the word is appreciated. Cheers, Eileen

  4. Sorry to only be reading this now. We were there on Saturday April 26. Parked and left the car by 12:30 p.m. Three of us on skis, one on snowshoes. Saw a snowmobiler & skier come out just before we started. We stayed to the right of Grouse Creek on the way up. Noticed the skiers mentioned above (or perhaps there were others) coming down. Did not cross anyone up close. Camped at around 6,500 ft. From about 5:00 a.m. to about 8:00 a.m. Sunday we travelled to below the col, but with winds picking up and the summit engulfed in clouds we turned around. We had seen two climbers on snowshoes ahead of us who made it to the col but turned around due to high winds. They followed our tracks to pass our camp on the way down (maybe 8:30 a.m.ish?). They told us that they had come up through the Heliotrope trail on Saturday, camped high on the glacier, and had not seen anyone else on the mtn before or after them. Sorry I don't have more information :-(. Hope you find Kevin. Eileen from Vancouver ebistrisky@gmail.com
